C'mon, Pepe. I know the pickups are installed.![]()
I might be wrong on this, but I've never known wax potting to be about fixing issues with the screws. Not that I've ever been concerned with this, but when I had a plethora of Shop Floor Custom pickups recently come in with the wrong screws, after the third time I was hoping I could have just asked SD for the proper black nickel screws and be on my way. The dealer I was ordering through talked me out of it saying it would compromise the wax potting, and considering these were new pickups I decided to wait to have SD rebuild them from scratch again taking another 2-4 weeks per time.
My point is, will you be concerned the wax potting was compromised before even hearing how it sounds?
If *I* was to order a Custom Floor item, it would've been a *no potting* one to start with, but then *I* don't use tons of gain.will you be concerned the wax potting was compromised before even hearing how it sounds?
You are from NJ, right? Then imagine a big italian guy from your neighborhood saying "you don't know nothing!!!C'mon, Pepe. I know the pickups are installed.![]()
Fuhget about it!You are from NJ, right? Then imagine a big italian guy from your neighborhood saying "you don't know nothing!!!![]()
That's my home-made 59/Custom Hybrid.I'm confused. Is the pic of the screwless pickup the 59/C hybrid you already had or did you remove the screws from the "Hybird"?
If you don't know what kind(s) of wire(s) type(s) are and how are used in both coils, DC readings can be very misleading. This makes me a bit of a hypocrite because I stated before that specs are secondary to the tonal outcome
Is that because of the (quite high for a neck p'up) DC reading on the label?but seeing the specs on this proto has really got me interested again. Definitely pumped for a demo and some feedback on it!
amp looks cool. the 65 is a great speaker too! look forward to hearing clips
No, that's the Heritage Series, "Robben Ford approved", pre-Rola spec'ed, G12-65 reissue. That's the Creamback right?
If you don't know what kind(s) of wire(s) type(s) are and how are used in both coils, DC readings can be very misleading.
Exactly! Fx. you can wind two p'ups using the same wire, magnets and even number of turns, but just by varying the way the wire is laid on the bobbin and the tension the wire is applied to the coil, you can have one p'up sounding wooly and soft the other shrill and sharp, with both having a very similar DC reading.I have played pickups from the custom shop that I was CERTAIN would sound one way based on available specs and the magnet used and was surprised when the sonic outcome was different.
See, this p'ups design is like NOTHING I've come across before or even thought of making as a hybrid, conceptually speaking. Not even all my decades-long experience could give me a hint.Now.....how do I HOPE it sounds? Haha! Well, enough heat to give leads a nice liquid feel combined with a clear top end and a bottom that is controllable would be killer. So with that, I will patiently await your testing.![]()
