That Hydra is whack man, whack.
Whack in the sack.

That's gotta weigh 24 lbs. Eccentric, yes, but I wonder how many of these actually sell...4?

Actually it gets a pass from me for the steampunk vibe. Can't really look at it as a guitar, but as a piece of art/engineering/craftmanship, it is pretty amazing.

Looks very cool, but I can't imagine playing it with those pointy things sticking into your right arm. And don't try to avoid putting your arm across the pointy things lowering the tail of the guitar or you'll get a nasty burn from those tubes on top.

It is definitely a marketing piece for Ibanez and we are talking about it so it is working. I would imagine Steve will bring it out for one song on tour. That being said seeing it is a custom one-off for Steve Via from Ibanez I am sure as ugly as it is the guitar plays like a dream.

Considering the Hydra is a multi-headed, reptilian monster from Greek myth, it's probably not meant to be pretty ;).

You can bet Vai would play it live, knowing his quite long history with multi-neck guitars. That'd be worth seeing. Also interested in hearing the new track it was used on.

I doubt it's something Ibanez would even think about trying to sell, it's a one off for their biggest endorser, he's sold enough guitars for them the custom shop will build him anything he wants. It's just a whim thing for him, and he used it to record a song on his new album so I'm sure he will use it for that one song on the tour.

And yeah, the Homer-mobile is a pretty good description of it!

Everybody and their dog has sent me the Hydra video over the last couple weeks.

My last and best comment is this: Steve dreams of nightmares, Ibanez provides the fuel.
