Well my ebay purchased Jackson DK2T arrived today. I got home from work about 5 minutes before mr brown shorts arrived. I was a bit apprehensive purchasing a guitar unseen, but i was quietly confident enough since I had played several Dk2s with either the hardtail or the floyd and noticed a consistent quality.
The guitar was nicely packed inside the gigbag with lots of packing materials. I inspected the guitar and first glance said it was indeed brand new as advertised. I still find it hard to fathom how they were selling it for $350, but i guess I wont complain. a few of the auctions i still had on my watch list ended with a few used dk2s with floyds selling between 400 and 500 bucks, in definitely used condition. that definitely made me feel better about this purchase even before it arrived.
On with the inpection. The neck is nice and straight with a small bit of relief. the frets are wide and tall. The action is set quite a bit higher than i usually set it, but it is still really effortless to play. after about a half hour i was thinking maybe i should raise the action on my other guitars. bends are really easy. i dunno if that because of the higher action or the high frets or probably even a combination of both.
at first i was thinking i got an ebony board despite the fact i dont think ive seen an ebony dk2 yet and the website specs say rosewood. the board seems darker with tighter grain and a slight glossy appearance. i put it under a lamp and then i could see the grain a bit better with the more familiar brownish hue of the rosewood. its still alot darker than my other 3 rosewood electrics though. it feels alot smoother to the touch as well.
back in the early 90's i had a translucent black les paul studio lite with an ebony board. for some reason this Jackson reminds me so much of that guitar.
i searched the gig bag and found several unadvertised extras. they included a new pack of strings, guitar strap, guitar cable, pick holder, picks and something i never expected to find. a gold plated trem bar. since this isnt a trem equipped guitar, i though that a bit odd, heh.
overall its more than worth the money paid. its really exactly what i was looking for in both looks and feel. the neck especially. my other jackson has a thinner neck with smaller frets. i was wanting something a little beefier.
These are the pics i posted earlier taken from the auction advertisement. i havent taken any of my own yet, but ill probably get some taken soon.
