The JJ 1/4 pounders

Hello bass players.
I would like to get an honest opinion about
The jazz 1/4 pounders.
I want my bass to be more powerful, aggressive and crunchy.
I've been told that the 1/4 pounders is what im looking for.
So please let me know if that's what I'm looking for.
Thanks.

Re: The JJ 1/4 pounders

I've used them before, and that is exactly what you get. More lower mids, and about twice the output of standard J bass pickups. Great for aggressive styles, and I really like them if you ever use a distorted bass tone.

Re: The JJ 1/4 pounders

it's really a no lose situation TS

No Jazz or PBass player has purchased a set of QPs and ever been disappointed that I'm aware of -unless they were looking to turn their bass into a Ric 4001 or didn't understand the point of QPs

If they are looking for a more powerful Fender Bass sound -they found it.

They are that ubiquitous to the desired outcome of a full powerful bass.

Re: The JJ 1/4 pounders

They are great, except for the fact that they are non-staggered. They are aggressive without getting muddy. The volume imbalance sucks, though. They should come in flat and staggered versions. Ordering them staggered from the Custom Shop more than doubles the cost.

Guitar player and I put them in Jazz bass to noodle around on and I feel like I’m Lemmy melting my dog’s faces off.

The TalkBass forum has a lot of people who don't like QPs, but hey, maybe they don't like heavier music...

Yeah, I can see someone who taps or pops a lot, or need rich harmonic subtlety or needs some Jazzy stuff not liking them -or a Rock guy needing the pronounced warm mid range of a RIckenbacker -but anyone else is just arguing semantics on a forum in my opinion.

Re: The JJ 1/4 pounders

Well, they also argue about which $8k bass is better, too.

HA. dude...so true I pretty much like everything you post...

I'm blessed to play with some world class and renowned players -and I can tell you that anything they play on sounds amazing and sounds like them. and they can produce most of their tone on a student model and Peavey Bandit

gear is awesome and helps, but completely overrated in the search for your sound.
