The Kinman Mod (with pics)

So, this little mod gets talked about a bit, and there's a thread in the Vault about it, but some folk seem confused about the series/parallel difference. I was waiting for parts for this mod to come in for my Roadstar and they finally did today. Many of you guys know this already but whatever :), I like seeing pics when this kind of stuff is being discussed (visual learner?), so someone may benefit.

Like a lot of people, I don't like turning down and losing highs - it feels like someone puts a towel and cushions over the amp. Because I don't switch channels for clean, I like the high end and detail to be retained when rolling down.

Specimen: '85 Ibanez Roadstar. Often overlooked because of the cumbersome bridge, and string lock that has to be unscrewed to adjust the truss-rod *face-palm*. Matching carnations specially cultivated.

Controls - 2 vol (push/push split), 1 tone. Interesting that each pu has its own wire channel into the cavity.

So, this is dead simple - twist the wires of the resistor and cap, solder them (a little goes a long way!) together, and trim the ends. Caps and reistors here aren't polarized so which way you do it doesn't matter. Obviously, I have some PIO examples here, but I don't think there'd be a massive difference if you used a polystyrene one or whatever for this mod (unless you're like Eric Johnson maybe :)). I like PIOs because they look cool :D.

Then simply solder each available end to the non-ground lugs of the volume pot; placement of resistor/cap according to lug doesn't matter.

And that's it. I prefer this mod to the Duncan one (parallel) as it doesn't add perceived excess treble when rolling down. The stock pups in this guitar are pretty hot and thick (kinda like a Super D), and thus don't clean up that well (bit sterile when they do, like many generic ceramic pups), so this mod has given them a bit of dimension which goes with my technique/rig setup.
