I think you mean "R9".

It took me awhile to figure this one out as well and I didn't dare ask the guys on the Les Paul Forum; they're a little too over-zealous about it.

The "R" stands for "Reissue" and the number afterwards denotes the year of it; in this case 1959. The letter and number designation I've only seen used exclusively with the Historics, Gibsons step up from the standard production line.

It was either 95 or 96 that the really really great Reissues were made. That's a really nice one...

Yeah. I've played a lot of nice guitars, and I'm really a fender guy, but that R9 was stunning. I played it through the new Marshall handwired combo and it was like being transported into the Zep DVD.
