The minibucker thread! SM-3 vs. Gibson reissue vs. Antiquity II mini

Re: The minibucker thread! SM-3 vs. Gibson reissue vs. Antiquity II mini

I use an SM-3n in the neck of a tele. It sounds great, just as described by SD. I don't mind the looks, but if I expected to see screw pole pieces I might feel a little different about it. The first one I tried did squeal, but SD replaced it with one that has been perfect. I guess I'd try wax-potting an original pickup that I liked otherwise if I couldn't find an alternative -- beats getting out the router by a long shot.

Wow that must have been dissapointing, good thing SD cares about his customers. Is the SM-3 real fat?
I won't route the body, I know I'll regret it later if I want to play more clean stuff.
Thank you Whofan, guy who invented fire and kelsey! You guys have been really helpful. Much apreciated!
I'll save up for some custom shop buckers, gonna get me a mini brobucker set or something like that :)

I think the SM-3 comes as close as any pickup to falling in between, or melding, the tone of a Fender single coil and a PAF. It has a warm, full tone with a touch of HB compression, but also a touch of single coil articulation and texture. I wish there was a better selection of guitars that came stock with mini-HBs.
