Just for sake of conversation, what guitar out there do you think personifies heavy metal. I know some think the Les Paul is the typical rock guitar so what guitar do you think is the be all to end all of metal guitars? I think the newer style flying V's might be near the top as it seems many metal guitars are wielding them these days. B.C. Rich guitars must also be up there in the list also.

So what say you?

The Jackson Rhoads
Schenker's B/W Gibson V
KK Downing's Studded Hamer mini V

Then again, Dave Murray's old black Strat, or Adrian Smith's Lado, or even an SG Custom (Iommi's white 3-pickup).

Depends more on where it's used over what's used.

HOwever, I'd have to say the definitive Heavy (or any) Metal guitar has to be one that could not "fit" in any other context visually. LP, Strat, Tele, V, SG - those can be and have been used in everything from Jazz to Blues to Country as well as various Metal levels, but you're not likely to see a Jazzer swinging on a Jackson Warrior.

..yeah might look weird to see a country guitarist using a bright red warlock!

Re: The most metal "looking" guitar?

Jackson Soloist, Kelly, Warrior, Rhoads, King V.

BC Rich Warlock, Stealth, Ironbird.

Re: The most metal "looking" guitar?

BC Rich Beast, Widow, WarBeast.

Then again, Bootsy's mega-pointy Exploding Star bass would be Metal if not for the fur and lights

Rob Guz's "Roots Bloody Roots" guitar:

Re: The most metal "looking" guitar?

I dunno. Looks a bit like a contender for the most natural-looking guitar, at least.

Re: The most metal "looking" guitar?

I always liked George Lynch's skull and bones guitar when I was younger. However it has been copied to death now...

Originally built by Johnny "J. Frog" Garcia. He has many great looking guitars that have been used by quite a few well known axe men.
I think he built the Ouija guitar used by Kirk Hammett also but can't be sure on that one. The paint job of the board looks very similar though.

SG Standard full guard or hot-rodded Strat (a la Ritchie Blackmore, Dave Murray, Glenn Tipton, etc.).

..and of course:

I think his "Concorde" and the Polka dot V are more iconic to the artist but metal none the less.

With it's likeness to the '57 Chevy Belair, I'm partial to an Explorer and several of it's variations such as this '77 Hamer Standard Custom.

Gibson Explorer. My all time favorite guitar.
