The never ending Scott_F guitar exchange...

Sold the heritage 535 and got a lead on a 1998 model 56 reissue goldtop p90 in Seattle. I'm meeting the guy at the downtown GC to test and make the exchange. (assuming it's lively and acoustic unplugged)

I did a compare A/B/C with the PRS, the R8 and the Heritage. The 535 lost. Just no comparison. R8 won the rhythm test, the PRS won the lead test. Heritage wasn't far behind, but the elves are telling me to buy an R6. Dirty stinkin' rotten elves.

Re: The never ending Scott_F guitar exchange...

Scott you're breaking my heart, I would have been happy to have bought that Heritage off of you :(

Re: The never ending Scott_F guitar exchange...

It was on ebay for about 24 hours. Ijust never got around to advertising it here as I never seem to get any interest in guitars I list here. I listed it on Gear Page, but not even a lowball offer.

If you liked it, and it was a great guitar, Jay Wolfe has another one like it, with Seths and bigsby for $1250 new in the case.

It's funny. There's a point at which you become less sentimental about guitars, and it's usually after you realize that whatever you buy new, it beats the one you're selling.
10 minutes ago, I was starting to get sentimental about the G&L Invader I just sent off with Fedex, since I really liked that guitar. Then, I picked up the Legacy Deluxe that replaced it, and said "who cares."

If they made a true P90 guitar, I'd already own it. No soapbar guitars from Heritage for some reason. Not sure why.
I think you can custom order pretty much anything you want from Jay. You can even get something like P-90 - Hum - P-90. They also offer all kinds of custom switching options.

Oh yeah, I sold my Heritage 535 tonight. There's this little voice in my head telling me to buy a 56 Reissue Les Paul goldtop. I did an A/B/C comparison of my three most expensive guitars. A - the 58RI Lester was a gift from the wife. Thank goodness it's the best of the three, cuz I could never sell it. B was the PRS McCarty. C was the Heritage. The Heritage has the slimmest neck of the three and it just plain lost. Not even close to the other two.
It's kinda weird comparing a 535 to a PRS with a solid rosewood neck though. As far as I remember yours was a goldtop with a bigsby on it. I'm not a fan of the bigsby to tell you the truth. Did you go with a standard Heritage neck?

My neck is not exactly slim. It's in between the 50s and the 60s. About the same as my modern c-shape strat, just much lower action, 24 3/4, etc... I got it because I play a LOT of thumb chords, and I would still like to be able to play fast on it.

Do you have pictures of your 56RI Lester? I've never seen a lester before.

Re: The never ending Scott_F guitar exchange...

I gave Jay Wolfe a chance to "order" a P90 heritage. He said, absolutely not. He could put Phat Cats in one or Fat Batahds in, but no P90s. I found that to be pretty strange. Then he starts selling me on Hamers. I told him that I was very impressed with Hamers, but most of the ones I saw were double cutaway. He starts going on and on about a Monaco Elite Plus or some crap. 2000 bucks. Uh, Jay, I'm jonesing for a 56 Reissue Les Paul. I want Heritage to make me one. The idea with me is that I can usually buy a heritage for much less than a Gibson. Now he's shoving a 2000 dollar Hamer at me. Sorry dude, I told him, I can get the Gibson for that price (which is what I'm really after). Then Jay does something he's never done with me on the phone before. He starts trashing Gibson Les Pauls, telling me what a piece of junk they are, swiss cheese weight relief, all this stuff, most of which doesn't apply to the Reissue Series. It was a pretty amazing experiecne. He's even getting into the Honduran Mahogany versus African Mahogany, I finally had to tell him to just stop. I wasn't buying a 2000 dollar Hamer. Not going to do it.

What a weird sales call that was. All Heritage has to do is route out a top for P90s. Give me a freaking break. How hard is that?

Getting to GearHo's comments, I had no real attachment to the 535. It was an outstanding guitar, but the neck was a bit on the thin side for what I like to play. I can play much much longer on the Gibson and the PRS was just way smoother for blues leads. I know I was comparing apples to oranges to grapes, but one of the high dollar ones had to go to pay for the R6. Heritage lost on that. It's still a great guitar. The Bigsby has that old school cool factor to it, no doubt. BUt there are skills to have to learn on using a Bigsby.

The absolute best Trem I've ever played, easiest, most stable, etc. was the PRS trem on a CU24 I briefly owned. Best trem ever to me.

The R6 has that Les Paul feel to it and the P90 bite I'm after. If it doesn't work out, I won't lose money on it since I'm buying it used.

Re: The never ending Scott_F guitar exchange...

Scott: You really ought to try a Hamer Monoco Super Pro someday. Mine beat the pants off of two great Les Pauls when we compared them. I see them on Ebay all the time for under $1500 used. I think I paid less than $1300 for mine in mint condition. I've owned two and both played and sounded exactly the same! I kept the prettiest one with the best flame and sold the other. Lew

Re: The never ending Scott_F guitar exchange...

I thought of asking this before but must've gotten sidetracked...so I'll ask now:

What is an R6 & R8???

A reissued '56 & '58 ???

Re: The never ending Scott_F guitar exchange...

Scott man. show me your lester. I'm dying out here! Help a brother out!

Re: The never ending Scott_F guitar exchange...

Wow that WAS indeed a weird convo with Jay. From my experience he was so kewl !! I guess they just don't know how to rout out p90s. They probably know how to do what they do really well, but won't try anything radically new things over at Kalamazoo. But that's weird because P90s were around in the 50s on the first Les Pauls. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I actually picture a perfect goldtop with P90s, not hums. (Oh wait look at PUCKBOY there it is!!! hahaha)

Re: The never ending Scott_F guitar exchange...

Who is Jay? Tell us how you like the R6 after you have had it a while. Scott, What pups do you have in your R9?

Hey, we don't need no mo' Ho's around here! :D

Scott,
more power to you, bro!

I think money tends to gravitate to the "tried and true" models in the end. The R6 looks very cool, and has the TOM that the R4 doesn't. It'll be a great guitar when you find one.
My first electric - a Silvertone - had a Bigsby, so I love those, but when I see a semi hollow with one, it usually says "Rockabilly" to me. Great guitars, but a bit of a specialty item. If you don't love it, you pass it on to someone who will.

In the meantime, we can get some vicarious pleasure out of your "Ho-ness" :)
