Re: The never ending Scott_F guitar exchange...
I gave Jay Wolfe a chance to "order" a P90 heritage. He said, absolutely not. He could put Phat Cats in one or Fat Batahds in, but no P90s. I found that to be pretty strange. Then he starts selling me on Hamers. I told him that I was very impressed with Hamers, but most of the ones I saw were double cutaway. He starts going on and on about a Monaco Elite Plus or some crap. 2000 bucks. Uh, Jay, I'm jonesing for a 56 Reissue Les Paul. I want Heritage to make me one. The idea with me is that I can usually buy a heritage for much less than a Gibson. Now he's shoving a 2000 dollar Hamer at me. Sorry dude, I told him, I can get the Gibson for that price (which is what I'm really after). Then Jay does something he's never done with me on the phone before. He starts trashing Gibson Les Pauls, telling me what a piece of junk they are, swiss cheese weight relief, all this stuff, most of which doesn't apply to the Reissue Series. It was a pretty amazing experiecne. He's even getting into the Honduran Mahogany versus African Mahogany, I finally had to tell him to just stop. I wasn't buying a 2000 dollar Hamer. Not going to do it.
What a weird sales call that was. All Heritage has to do is route out a top for P90s. Give me a freaking break. How hard is that?
Getting to GearHo's comments, I had no real attachment to the 535. It was an outstanding guitar, but the neck was a bit on the thin side for what I like to play. I can play much much longer on the Gibson and the PRS was just way smoother for blues leads. I know I was comparing apples to oranges to grapes, but one of the high dollar ones had to go to pay for the R6. Heritage lost on that. It's still a great guitar. The Bigsby has that old school cool factor to it, no doubt. BUt there are skills to have to learn on using a Bigsby.
The absolute best Trem I've ever played, easiest, most stable, etc. was the PRS trem on a CU24 I briefly owned. Best trem ever to me.
The R6 has that Les Paul feel to it and the P90 bite I'm after. If it doesn't work out, I won't lose money on it since I'm buying it used.
