The New EVH Charvel

Has anybody played on of these? As a big EVH fan I would love to have one. But according to GP mag the standard production models are priced at ~$3200 list. That a might bit steep for what looks like an 800 dollar instrument. (And don't even think about getting one that Edward hand taped himself unless you've got dough coming out your ###...there is/was a section on e-bay where those models are going for at least 10 kilo bucks.)

Comments...real life experiences?

Cool guitar, but imo, like any signature guitars, your paying for the name. Overpriced to me.

Nobody pays list price, but IMO the EVH series is a bit on the pricey side for what is essentially a basswood Charvel with Stripes and a Strathead.

I haven´t played one myself, but from what I hear the Quality is off the scale, like on all USA Jacksons. I personally would get a new Charvel San Dimas, but that´s just me ;)

Re: The New EVH Charvel

I've read several disappointed reviews of the EVH production model Charvel's. Take it for what it's worth. And basically, yeah it's an $800-900 guitar for the street price of $2,650. I personally wouldn't pay that amount of money on a one pickup guitar, but hey....

Make your own, save some serious $$$$$. Not to mention, EVH's classic FrankenStrat was swamp ash, not basswood. Never had a basswood guitar, but I've heard that they're a bit on the delicate side. It'd kind of suck to pay that much for a guitar and a couple of years later have the Floyd pull right out of the body. Get the parts you want and put an "Evenly Voiced Harmonics" ;) pickup in it.

Nice!
Charvel® USA Standard San Dimas 1H w/Floyd Rose®

Re: The New EVH Charvel

Could be a nice investment if you pick up one at the right price.

Of course, you wouldn't be able to play it that much to keep it 'minty'. But it would be fantastic guitar to add to the collection if your a VH fan.

Re: The New EVH Charvel

I like the good ol' USA Wolfies and Musicmans better cosmetically, but I never played the new Charvel model so I can't compare them

Re: The New EVH Charvel

I heard he switched to basswood from ash since it is lighter. Apparently he had some lower back problems and of course the hip replacement. But yeah, the original was reportedly ash.

Again, I can´t post prices of my dealers here as they likely all would get slammed and lose their dealership for violating MAP-Rules (Minimum Advertised Price).

But again, anyone that pays 2.5k for an EVH should be shot for excess stupidity (i.e. a lower IQ than one person is legally allowed to have), they´re available MUCH cheaper, I´ve seen (and been offered) them for just under 2k :smack:

"I can only show you the door, you have to go through yourself", In other words: I can only post links to good dealers, you guys have to click on them yourselves

And since they also have to adhere to MAP on their websites: Write them an e-mail if you´re really interested. ;)

I say do what EVH did: his original frankenstrat was made out of Charvel and Boogie Body (now Warmoth) parts. Get a swampash body and neck from Warmoth (or from Wayne [Charvel]), pop in an A2 PAF variant, and have fun.
