The new Fender Pawn shop strat!

Hey guys, right now I have a strat that I love and a tele that I love.

The thing I like about the 70s Pawn Shop strat is the one bridge humbucker and a neck single, with a hardtail bridge! I want to order one with a hard case. Question though, what do you all think of the quality compared to an American strat?

Also, can the pickguard be replaced or painted? It is sort of ugly! I prefer solid color pickguards! :)

I envision this with a Duncan Antiquity JB in the bridge with a Duncan Vintage Stack in the neck with a solid black or solid white pickguard. :)

Thanks!

Why not? It is my favorite design for a strat, the tele meets strat design. I could easily take care of the pickguard. :) :) :)

So far, you have questioned the build quality compared to US-made Fenders, you dislike the pickguard and you plan to change the pickups as soon as you get the guitar home.

In my opinion, even after all of the proposed modifications, the Pawn Shop model will be no match for your Seymourised Fender Am Std Telecaster.

Re: The new Fender Pawn shop strat!

Pawn Shop Fender guitars are MIJ. I'd expect top notch quality. Older MIJ Fenders, and MIJ ESP's and Ibanez guitars are fantastic quality.
What's wrong with that pickguard? It's a classic 70's Fender Tele look. It is a solid color. Solid pearloid.:9:

If you hate the way the Pawn Shop Strat/Tele hybrid looks, track down this custom shop one I saw a pic of the other day:

Or this one I just now saw:

I think I'd play like a god if I had that vintage orange one.

Exactly. You've already got a Telecaster with a HB in the bridge and a Duncan stack in the neck.

Another question: Do you buy a new guitar every week? You've just bought a Jim Root Tele that hasn't even arrived yet, you've been talking about another Highway 1 Strat, and you're already shopping for another guitar?

I do buy a loot of guitars, yes. Why?

My point of the Jim Root was to have a Fender with a 12" fretboard. :) Love it!

I may skip the Pawn Shop strat and go for another Les Paul. :)

My favorite new Strat has to be the 1963 Heavy Relic Stratocaster. It is the only newer Strat that I have seen that I have wanted to mortgage the house for.

papersoul, i dislike you, and don't have anything of relevance to contribute to this thread.

I will therefore be bowing out now.

Have a good thread (if at all possible)!

Eh... With as many reservations as you have about it, I'd just assemble your own from custom-built parts. You'll get exactly what you want, it will be better in quality, and it will cost about the same price (assuming you do your own finishing). Plus, being a build, you don't have to spend all the money at once; that's less painful on the finances IMO. You can get a body and paint it one month, and only get hit for $200-$250, a neck and finish material once you have another $200-$300 free, etc.
