The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

Jeff_H

Dean Hardtail Fanologist
767 British pounds for the 100 watt head, and 788 pounds for the 2x12 combo. This translates into $1485 USD for the head. Not to shabby actually. That means the 2266 (50w head) should be a little less.

They will be available in GB in mid December, worldwide in Jan 07'.

Re: The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

First and foremost: New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp? That hurts my head.

Second and twomost: Did you honestly quote me? Jeff H from the Duncan forum quoted ME?! I feel like a celebrity....

Re: The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

No matter what...I'm excited to see all these new Marshall amps. It's been a long time since they've come out with anything that wasn't a reissue.

I also like boutique Marshalls, but there's something about a real Marshall that has THE sound, not an improvement or variant, but THE sound.

Yeah, this JMP head I just bought, its pretty crazy how much it sounds like so many classic recordings. Gotta love the Marshall raunch.

Re: The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

You can pre-order the JVM in the UK for approx. £880 which translates to approx. $1700. I'm waiting excitedly for next months guitarist mag to see if there's another Marshall DVD.........anyone say 2/3 channel 50w midi valve head??????

Re: The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

I really don't understand Midi switching and how it differs from a normal foot switch. I'd just be happy if they had a 2-3 channel amp that sounded as good as the 6100, the Silver Jubilee...or even better Bogner or Splawn.

Re: The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

Are those street prices or suggested retail?

Tack on a little extra for shipping across the big pond to US soil and then through distribution to all the stores. Marshalls sell for more here than they do in the UK.

I can't wait until they hit the stores. I'll be taking one of my own guitars in to try them out.

. . . this just might be only the second Marshall amp to 'get' my attention, after the BluesBreaker - for me, (& my music style) still the best ever amp that Marshall made !!!

Re: The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

If the new Traynor YCS100 head doesn't add up to the crunch factory that I'm dreaming of, this new marshall will be my next purchase. I only want/need 50 watts and 100 is just too too much for most hobby users like myself. I will say that it moves some air though and that can be fun. The new 50 watt marshall with the right tubes could be a tone monster fo sho and might fill in all the holes that the Edana needs pedals to cover.

Re: The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

It's nice that they chose KT66's and acknowledge the role this underestimated tube has played in the classic Marshall sound.

It was a cool saying bro. I'm certainly no celebrity either....just an old fool who has too much time to post on a forum! :smokin:

Scott...I'm really jonesing for one of Scott's amps, and I know he's working on a project that's slightly out of the norm for him...so not sure if that will come to fruition. I think I've made the decision that I need to move on from my JCM 800...it's just not what I want at this point in my musical taste.

I like the idea of Scott's Edana, but I really want something like this with a build in boost, or a Silver Jubilee.

What in the world are you going to do with a XXX, a Traynor, an Edana AND a new Marshall?

Re: The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

I am a gear whore, but the XXX is already history. Couldn't get it to sound marshally enough for me. It got close, but no cigar. I bought it on a lark and sold it for a small profit. Buyer picked it up this weekend. If the Traynor YCS100 isn't what I want, I'll sell it for roughly what I have in it and buy the new Marshall instead. I got a stunning price on the YCS100 and couldn't pass it up. If it sucks (and only after I've ran some good tubes through it) it's history.

If you want a boost for the Edana. Get a tubulator. Does a stunning job of just that. Running that into the front end of a cranked Edana gives it a dirt boost that doesn't seem to alter the EQ that I can tell. It just has more power and more dirt. VERY nice sound BTW. Kinda like Angus on steriods. Classic rock all the way, but with more gain. It's a match made in heaven. Make some time on a weekend and I'll bring it down to you for a tryout.

Re: The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

I have seen the review in Guitarist and the DVDs. The Vintage Modern seems actually really good.

On the other hand the JVM is a real "gas factory", to translate litterally a French expression (and I meant gas, not GAS). It is probobly my ears, but I wasn't impressed by the zounds of modes you have on each channel. All sounded pretty much the same to me. I found quite funny how the clean sound, got not so clean at all when you turned to the orange and red modes. They could have worked a bit more on this and give options for different real clean sounds. Anyway... It's just my opinion.

Re: The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

I saw a copy of the one fo those UK guitar magazines that said it came with the new Marshall DVD/CD...I was all prepared to shell out the $14 (WTF!!!???) just for that (BTW, I usually find the british rags are far better than the crap the US has been putting out for the past 15 years)..

but there was a little disclaimer that said only the copies for sale in the UK had the DVD  :smack: :yell:

Jeff(H) what is about the modded 800 that you dislike? Reason I ask is cos with a speaker change, an 800 (even a modded one) can take on a whole new tone/life. If your cab is running V30s or 75s, a switch to GB25s or G12H can really get back into more of a 70s sound. Classic Lizzy/Aerosmith for example. I like 75s...alot, but no doubt they can get on your nerves at times and I've never been much of a fan of V30s at all...especially when 75s/V30s are combined with an already bright 800 and bright pups like you prefer. I tend to like thicker darker pups with an 800/75 type amp setup...helps tame some of the "harsh".

That said...I'm anxious too to try these VM and JVM amps.

Re: The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

Jeff....it's not that I really dislike the 800..I guess my taste is changing a little, and I want something a little different. I think the main thing right now is the white noise that i get on the gain channel...it really bugs me. Plus, I really, really want a head. I don't know why that's important, but it is.

My 4x12 has 75's in it. They're well broken in, but since I've changed from A2 pickups to a5's with a little more bits, I probably need something smoother. I loved the V30's for a while in my combo, but they became TOO smooth. What I need to do is take the 25 year old 75's out of my combo and put them in the bottom of my 4x12....then get some Greenbacks and put them in the top.

I'm just excited about what Marshall is doing, but I don't really NEED a new amp for any reason, because I can get almost any tone out of the one I have now.

Re: The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

CORRECTION: THE NEW MARSHALLS COST $0. Well maybe not but thats as much as i'd spend on one. Name on the amp, shipping to U.S., and slash's illegitimate children are all you really pay for. Lets not forget that 'the marshall brown sound' can be found in quite a few amps these days (and most of these amps put marshall to shame in build quality + sound for not much more $$). Dont get me wrong, marshall used to be THE amp company for rock music but that time is long gone.

special note: i have nothing against marshall, just the fact that the company is thought of as amp royalty. maybe i'm just young and ignorant BUT THEY HAVENT MADE ANYTHING GOOD DURING MY LIFETIME so i dont see a reason to praise them.

Because a marshall stack is THE sound and LOOK of Rock perhaps? :D

That or a 75/12H mix sounds like a really good idea. I think you'd be surprised at the difference. Speakers are SOOOOO key to "the Marshall Sound"...a JMP/800 with 75s is a totally different beast than one with Greenbacks or Blackbacks for example. And a plexi sounds alot tighter and more aggressive with 75s. Lots of tonal possibilities.

I'm just excited about what Marshall is doing, but I don't really NEED a new amp for any reason, because I can get almost any tone out of the one I have now.

I am too! :bigthumb: And I was not trying to "condemn" you for wanting to try something different...just curious why you were having issue with the 800..and offering a cheap alternative that may do what you want..believe me though..I understand the GAS :laugh2: I'm looking forward to the new amps as well

Re: The New Marshall Vintage Modern Amp Costs.....

Jeff....none of your post was taken the wrong way. Truth is I'm just looking for a change. The hot rodded JCM sound is my sound...at least most of it.

The thing that is killing me is the noise on my drive channel. The clean channel is whisper quiet no matter how loud I turn up the channel or master...but the drive has a white noise/hiss at almost every volume...and it keeps me from playing quite honestly. All of the wiring/caps are less than 3 years old as Jeff Seal completely built it from scratch...and it sounds awsome.

I really wanted a Two Rock, but am just not willing to drop that kind of coin on an amp when I play in my den...at least right now. I just feel that I need a new amp to get excited about playing again...I'm a tard.
