This looks promising. A new popular model perhaps?

Re: The New Peavey Windsor EL-34 head

I played one

I will say Peavey's new gear sounds good - no lie. If I wasn't a Label Whore I would probably play more Peavey

Re: The New Peavey Windsor EL-34 head

nice price for an all tube head.... I wonder what one would sound like thru my 5150's cab.

Re: The New Peavey Windsor EL-34 head

The class A/AB switch looks cool. Still about 75 watts more than I would want though.

Re: The New Peavey Windsor EL-34 head

The true measure of any gear builder's success is when a large-scale manufacturer starts copying your stuff.

In this case, congratulations go to Dan Boul and Peter Stroud at 65 Amps - if Peavey is ripping off your look, you have truly arrived.

So, I'm sitting on "The Throne" last night reading the latest Musicians Friend catalog (isn't that where YOU keep YOURS??? :D )....and saw this amp.

Definitely has a cool look to it, but yeah....it has about 80w more than I want or need.

Maybe pull 2 tubes & run in class A....might be a winner on the used market

Re: The New Peavey Windsor EL-34 head

I've got one on order from MF. I got it price matched from Daddys Junky Music. I'm getting it for $80 off if anyone is looking to order one.

Re: The New Peavey Windsor EL-34 head

If i find one of these in stock i'll try one out for sure... and if i like it, and the price maybe right, i may end up with one in the near future... I have a few SS amps i have been looking to trade in on something better and tube.

Well, if you mean the two-tone vinyl (and I assume you must, since that seems to be where the similarity stops) then it goes back a bit further than 65. Matchless was doing it in the mid '90s by request, Komet has been doing it for five years or so...

Re: The New Peavey Windsor EL-34 head

It is an 800 clone right? Perhaps an El34 Butcher.... Curious to try it... Hopefully it will be one of those 200.00 used amps I can snatch up.

Re: The New Peavey Windsor EL-34 head

The whole MIC thing bothers me a little, not because it's Chinese generally, but because Hartley was such a Made-In-USA proponent for so long.

Well, they still have the Penta/JSX/6505/etc.

Re: The New Peavey Windsor EL-34 head

It does look pretty interesting...but I can't stray from my Edana GAS now

Regarding the 65 Amps London head. That damn amp haunts me...I love it so much. I first played it at the LA Amp Show, where me and Curly tripped out on it. Then, I met Pete Stroud and Dan Bouhl, and stood in their booth demoing the amp for people all day, at their demonstration at the Vacuum Tube Valley Expo. That Peavey is cool, but the 65 Amps head gives me GAS nightmares! LOL

That said, Peavey is making some cool amps these days. I just picked up a Peavey 2006 brochure, and besides this Windsor, they're going to be pushing their new Classic line. Now, they have Classic 30 heads, and they redesigned their Classic combos....mostly in the logo area.

Re: The New Peavey Windsor EL-34 head

A little off topic Joe, but which 65 stands out....or which haunts you ??? :D

The London 18 head. The owner was a contributor at the 18watt.com site, and gathered the best ideas from all the 18W Marshall builders. He ended up with an amp that's enormous sounding for a dual EL-84 amp with an EF86 pre.
At the LA Amp Show, there was a crowd standing in the hall, trying to see into the crowded room....what is the deal with that killer sound coming from that room?!!

I haven't tried the 35 watt amp they have, but I was told it's similar to an old
Selmer amp.

Re: The New Peavey Windsor EL-34 head

these Peavey Widsor are only $399USA from Musicans Friend... i'll have to stop into my closest Peavey dealer oneday and see what Canadian retail is and try one out.

I know, there are lots of two-tone amps around. But the first time I saw the Windsor, I immediately thought "65". The black-and-cream is their standard "thing" and its gorgeous. I was hanging around 18Watt.com when they were dreaming up that amp, and since then I hear nothing but good about it. Being a DIY guy, I don't think I'll ever buy another amp, but if someone handed me a blank check and told me I had to buy an amp - I'd go get a 65 London.

That amp design is pretty much laid out in the public doman. Putting an EF86 in front is a cool idea. Hopefully we'll start seeing more and more high quality EF86's hit the street one day soon.

Hmm... How 'bout an EF86 in front of a JTM45? That might prove interesting.
