The New Peavey Windsor EL-34 head

Re: The New Peavey Windsor EL-34 head

The London 18 head. The owner was a contributor at the 18watt.com site, and gathered the best ideas from all the 18W Marshall builders. He ended up with an amp that's enormous sounding for a dual EL-84 amp with an EF86 pre.
At the LA Amp Show, there was a crowd standing in the hall, trying to see into the crowded room....what is the deal with that killer sound coming from that room?!!

I haven't tried the 35 watt amp they have, but I was told it's similar to an old
Selmer amp.

Yep, I was fortunate enough to play an 18w London at Junior's Music before the place got burnt down. It was a sweet sounding amp, not as good as the hype was making it out to be, but a very good classic rock amp nonetheless.

I am going to go against the grain here and say that I hated the Peavey Penta and something's telling me I'm going to hate their new amp as well. With the exception of the 5150, I'm pretty sure I hate every Peavey amp out there.

Yeah, the Penta sounded better in theory than it did when I plugged into it. Not a bad amp at all, but I expected more good tones out of it.

The Windsor looks pretty simple, so we'll see. For $400 new, can you imagine the used price?! If it sounds any good at all, people will own them just because they look cool, sound good, and they're cheap. It still bugs me that they're made in China. I wish companies could resist that temptation, but people talk with their wallet, and everyone loves a bargain!

To be honest, almost every band I have been in with a 5150, I have gotten utterly annoyed after repeated exposure.

The only time it ever sounded right to me as a listener was when a local tribute to Bowie and Queen - Under Pressure/Ziggy Barlust used them and milked the tone.
