The next modern classic guitar shape?

I was looking at guitars the other day and noticed a lot of the new axes coming through seem to strat/tele/LP knock-offs with slight changes to the shape...and not in a good way. Most seem like they took a template and hacked at a cutaway without a lot of thought.

What new(er) shapes nowadays do you reckon will become classics in the future? Or have we come to the end of the line?

The EBMM Stingray Bass shape is likely to stick around for a while.

I could see this one becoming a timeless classic.:)

I really love the shape of the Reverend JetStreams. That offset look is really quite aesthetic to me.

Re: The next modern classic guitar shape?

Gotta be close to 80% (maybe 90%?) of all guitars sold are a strat, tele, sg, les paul, or knock offs. Those will always be the classic designs. I don't see enough people playing new guitar shapes to really believe that there will be a 'new classic' that comes from them.

Bow down to the new god...the Corvus!

Hofner explored those dimensions long, long ago and far, far away...at least several years ago in Germany...

I know it wasn’t popular but I was a fan of the Gibson Modern double cut.

I think the ESP Vyper as a SG variant could become a classic. To me, that one stands out in their lineup.

The MusicMan StingRay Bass shape is already a classic. It’s been around since the 1970’s and those basses are freaking legendary.

I don’t see anything that is revolutionary these days.

Always loved the Carvin Kiesel DC shape been playing them since the 1990's. Super strat but a little different than others. Just feel and look right to me.

Probably one of those over-priced amoeba shaped headless jobs that all the djent guys are wetting their panties over these days..forget what they're called. Apparently, they're really "ergonomic" or something...

PRS definitely fits this description.

To a lesser extent, the Rhoads V does too.

It's really hard to design a singlecut that doesn't look like a Les Paul or a doublecut that doesn't look like a Strat AND not have it be ugly. A lot of amateur luthier builds I've seen online look like someone got a small child to draw one of these guitars with a crayon and then tried to build the result.

It always looked unfinished to me. The PRS is a prettier, curvier design.

I am all for ergonomics, but the Strandbergs don't do it for me. I like the old Kleins better. Neither will ever be classic shapes, though.
