Re: The obligatory recommend an amp thread
I played several tonight.
Blackstar HT-20
Blackstar HT-40
Peavey 6505+
Marshall DSL 401
Peavey Bandit 112
Fender Mustang III
I found the Blackstars to be as I thought. A bit dark or more modern sounding. Lacking that mid range crunch I was looking for. I dialed the controls all over the place looking for it. The 40 was closer to the 20 for sure. It had a couple voicings for each channel. If it had blew me away, it was in my price range barely. 500 bucks in a store sale. Usually 700 I believe.
I found the Marshall to be exactly what Im looking for, though a few hundred out of my price range for that particular NOS marshall.
The 6505+ came in second.
The Bandit was surprisingly good with a couple usable voicings in the lead channel and a gain boost.
I thought the Mustang did a pretty good high gain with the metal 2000 and 90's presets. It had a decent bottom end thunk when pushed a bit.
