Wow, I had no idea there would be this much coversation. To answer a couple of questions:
Its a 2002 or 03 Charvel Traditional (strat style, 22 fret, 25 1/2" scale, 1 11/16" nut etc.). I actually broke out the ruler and took all the measurements - a strat neck is a direct replacement (which is a good thing in this case).
I don't know about US law, but this was a model just before the Fender buy- out of Jackson, so I haven't checked into getting a neck under warranty, but I am looking forward to the replacement (I ordered a maple/maple with stainless frets). I am not that big of a fan of rosewood, so its a welcome change under unfavorable circumstances
I saw the Stew-Mac repair/rescue kit and the replacement neck cost $10 more, so I opted for the new neck.
...and yes, I was tightening it. I used a short wrench (supplied with the guitar). The truss rod nut never actually moved, I just started to apply pressue and snap. I sounds like it broke pretty close to the nut from the rattling sound - and from the little pressure I applied it seems that the rod was faulty as opposed to abused. The neck had too much relief and very high action and was still fretting out in the upper registers - it needed a tightening.
I suspect I will be attempting a fretboard removal, truss rod replacement, etc on this old neck - just for the sake of trying it for the first time.
I will post when I get the new neck
Does anyone know the usual times for a Warmoth neck? This was an e-store purchase using the options selection provided for the model I chose. Thanks all.
it's not the scale length or nut width that is different between Warmoth and Charvel necks... It's the neck pecket fit.... Charvel necks are generally wider where they attach to the body... a Fender is 2 3/16's wide near the 21st fret, and i believe and a Charvel is slightly wider... I hope you are right about that model of Charvel being closer to Fender neck pocket specs. They mostly are not the same....
if the neck pocket is wider, you can still use the Warmoth neck... but there could be a space on either side of the neck
please post photos when you can.... i'd like to see what that model looks like..
Of course I measured the pocket, depth and width. This model is not a the typical "Charvel" that would come to mind. The neck I ordered matches all the important dimensions, this isn't my first guitar...lol. But, I'll let you know if either my ruler or Warmoth is off. Also, the original is the same spec as the replacement in regards to nut width and scale (scale being a bit more important). I'll post a pic when the neck is on, it just looks too rediculous with no neck.
just double checking... some beginners on this site as well... not everyone thinks of everything when ordering a new neck or other partsas well.... I've seen it happen on here to a few players before.... I've done it myself over the years more then a few times...
What back contour did you get with the Warmoth..... Standard?
Thanks for keeping an eye for us all....I sincerely mean that. I ordered the standard thin, it looks to be about like the shape that I am used to. Most of my guitars are super strats of various flavors (I don't know if Parkers would fall into the category?)
