The old Super Reverb/ Matt Schofield amp trick

Well, now I'm going to have to give this a try. It always takes me forever to dial in a sound I'm happy with.

it's as rational as any EQ explanation i've seen. It makes sense, but it leaves my knobs away from where i'd set them with my eyes usually.
 
Fascinating! I will definitely try it next time I get a chance to plug in [I play unplugged more often than not; amp time is when no one else is home].
I am really curious to see where my knobs wind up & if I like the sound better.

Ha! I wound up with almost exactly the same settings I have used with my amp for 30-some years!! I did end up turning the bass down a bit but otherwise...it's my well-established tone.
At some point I have GOT to just trust my ears.

I found similar - it got me very close to the tones that I usually dialed in, slightly lower bass and slightly higher presence. After playing with that EQ for a while I felt the need to knock the presence down to where it's usually set.
