i think ive found it but theres only one problem, its not loud enough :(

i play in a punk band, and i recently got a THD univalve. i run a semi-hollowbody double cut tele with duncan P-90s through a Maxon OD808 pedal then staright into my head.

its loud yes, but when we practice i just wish i could go up to 11....any way to fix it? i was thinking run another head with it but ive never done that, would it help?

thats not a bad idea... since the head is only 15 should i get higher wattage speakers? or lower so the sound is forced out? ive heard both.

Don't know what kind of cab or speakers you're running, but if you're happy with the tone, instead of spending a bunch of money on speakers (which will change your sound probably), try a boost pedal like an MXR Micro Amp, Electro Harmonix Linear Power Booster, or BBE Boosta Grande.

Re: The on-goign search for my perfect setup...

wouldnt a boost increase feedback? i already get some from the overdrive and semihollowbody. ive never used a boost before

Re: The on-goign search for my perfect setup...

I don't think that the boost pedal would really help, it'd just increase the gain.

I'd think about more efficient speakers with maybe a different output tube, a KT88 or a KT90 perhaps. But the speakers are definitely the #1 option imo.

Re: The on-goign search for my perfect setup...

Possibly, but the boost pedal will also allow you to back off the gain or volume of your rig a little to control the feedback. If you put it before the 808, it's going to put more hair on the 808 and you may need to back off the settings a little. The boost will enhance what everything does and make it louder. It'll also enhance sustain.

The EH LPB-1 is only about $35-40. Might be worth a shot. I have one and it works well, especially pushing the head itself.

Again, my suggestion is in the spirit of maintaining the current tone, making it louder, and enhancing it just a bit. Speakers and tubes are certainly an option, but it's going to be a more dramatic change in tone, imo.

More speakers, more air, more volume.

Expensive, but the most effective way to go.

Wait, isn't the obvious answer the Bi-valve + 4x12" of whatever you are runing now?

hmmm i thought about getting a KT88 but they give a warmer sound thatn what im looking for.

ive got another 4x12 though, i just didn't think to run it through both. i figured it wouldnt have enough output and would sound drained out or struggled. but i guess thats not true?
