It's actually an Alnico 5, not a P-90. That's how the Custom's were sold in '54, I believe the Alnico is a pricier pickup and the Custom at the time was top 'o the line.

Unsurprisingly all hits I got off of google talk about pups with an AV magnet. I'm sure that "p90" has an AV mag too but why does it look different, what does it sound like, an info page around?

My Dad had a Gibson LP just like that one back when he was my age. He dropped it out of a window the day he bought it.

.... Dont mind if I ask do you?

Well, it was like, 1973, and wacky backy was still in, and he says he was kinda drunk. He was sat on this window ledge, cos the window opened properly wide. Then, he probably sneezed or something, and it slipped off his lap, and down two storeys to the ground. He bought it on hire purchase, so he was still paying for this guitar 2 years after he dropped it.

He never played a Les Paul again until I got mine last year, when he realised that if he was playing a Strat, it wouldn't have fallen. The heavy body of the thing caused it to slip away.
