The perfect humbucker is it possible to create such a thing ?

Hello what would be your ''specs'' for the ultimate pickup ?

well in my case i think those are very important for every player (perhaps except for those playing death and black metal) :

- Articulate notes for lead

- Pickup responsive to your picking : you strum harder you'll get strong and nasty sounds.

- extremely sensible to your volume pot

- Cleans perfectly on lower volumes settings

- extremely versatile can go from metal to clean blues

- Not too bright not too dark.

Does it already exists ?

I believe a Brobucker qualifies as perfect.

I only have experience with one set, but my real-deal PAFs do all that.

I'd like something similar to a custom custom with a little less output. I'm going to try an A2 in my 59/custom hybrid and see if that gives me what I want

That's a phenomenal pickup, I have one in my #1 Strat paired isn't a PGn and it is simply amazing. I might try out a A2 Sentient in the neck though.

It doesn't exist, and I sincerely doubt it can: versatility will often entail some sort of compromise, hence the term "jack of all trades, master of none". Beyond this, it isn't too hard to find players who wouldn't want aspects of the original list (at least if we look apart from "not too bright not too dark", which is very subjective).

Seth Lover set. In my experience it is the most transparent humbucker...meaning it does exactly what you want....it doesn't push one way or the other...it is very articulate across the full range....it lets you build your tone with guitar, pedals and amp. However, I probably have less experience with the full range of humbuckers than many on this forum.

First, define humbucker. Are we talking Gibson style, PAF types? Firebird minis? NY Minis? Filter'trons? Fender Wide Ranges?

Re: The perfect humbucker is it possible to create such a thing ?

If it's perfect in a Fender, it's probably **** in a Gibson.

Re: The perfect humbucker is it possible to create such a thing ?

Perfect for me wouldn't work for most people- I need great touch-sensitivity, a great, complex clean sound (that splits well to a great single coil sound), and a thick, sustaining lead sound with some nice attack on the front end of the note.

That sounds pretty sexy to me. Which pickups get you there?

Yap my uncovered A3 Seth/Ant hybrid is perfect for neck position. Has as much spank as a single coil, great complexity so it's not muddy, and the right amount of body for fat sounds.

Re: The perfect humbucker is it possible to create such a thing ?

Fishman Classic set...have little first hand experience myself with these but have heard from many others that with the voice options they cover an extremely wide range...might be considered nearer perfection just because of this.
