The closest I have found to the "perfect humbucker" is the PRS narrowfield in my NF3 model. It is a type of mini-humbucker with the same wire and winds as their 57/08 model.

It has the snap and immediate attack of a singlecoil, and even response over all 6 strings, super tight but full low-end and power wise, it is around what my '78 is.

If they weren't proprietary, I would find one and send it to the Custom shop so MJ could check it out and build me a full size humbucker that responds the same.

Perfect for me would be a great neck pickup. I use the neck about 90% of the time.

I have a Distortion neck pickup (the old Seymourizer II) that I swapped an RCA4 into, that I also put hex screws into. It's in a Triple Shot ring and I usually run it in parallel.
I think that you'd like it.

i dont think there is a perfect pup. however there are perfect pups for certain people in certain guitars. my double screw a2 brobucker is just perfect in the guitar its in

If you narrow most of the variables down to only wanting 1 thing out of a pickup then you probably can find perfect.

Other than that its a fools errand.

Yes, absolutely! The perfect humbucker does exist. In fact there are probably over a hundred of them.

It is the player and guitar that isn't perfect.

Both the PAF (Seth Lover for ex) and the SH-5 are perfection for humbuckers.

Single coil perfection would have to be Callaham H/SRVs.

well in my case i think those are very important for every player (perhaps except for those playing death and black metal) :

- Articulate notes for lead

- Pickup responsive to your picking : you strum harder you'll get strong and nasty sounds.

- extremely sensible to your volume pot

- Cleans perfectly on lower volumes settings

- extremely versatile can go from metal to clean blues

- Not too bright not too dark.
