The Price of a Good Amp.

Hi guys, i actually won a few of those guitar world buyers guides, and looking at the amps i noticed that marshalls are alot more expensive than mesa boogie amps! I always though MEsa Boogie was really really over priced, but when looking at it it says,

Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier Series 2 - $1149
Marshal DSL 50 - $1600

Why would the DSL cost so bloody much cash. 450 dollars is a fair bit of a gap for the working class musician. I havent seen a signle rectifier in a store yet, so i dont knw how muhc theys ell for in canada but im guesing these are american prices since they are comming fomr guitar world.

Re: The Price of a Good Amp.

I've heard that the actual cost of parts in a given Marshall vs. a Boogie is $300 vs. $500. Whether or not those figures are accurate, there is a definite build quality improvement when moving from a current production Marshall to a current production Boogie.

OUch! 1500 quite high. But your on the west side of canada im ont he east side maybe that might have some effect.

MRID, not too sure but tell me if im right, your saying new marshalls in terms of build are not as good as new boogies in terms of build right?

Re: The Price of a Good Amp.

I wouldn't follow that guide if I were you.

Here's what I consider a reasonably accurate range

Good amp - $700-1300 (ex. Marshall, Mesa, Peavey, Fender)

Great amp - $1500-2500 (ex. Bogner [Shiva], Bad Cat, Aiken, Fargen, THD, Soldano, ENGL, Fuchs etc.)

Top of the line, elite modern production - $2500 - 3500 (ex. Bogner XTC, Suhr OD-100, Komet)

Anything more? Just waayyyy too much money (like Bruno, Diezel or Diaz).

Yep, at least that's my personal opinion.

Re: The Price of a Good Amp.

ya i would agree with you there, all i hear are problems with the new marshalls, espeicaly those dsl 401's. it btoehrs me that they stick a fan in the AVT series amps, but for their higher end DSL series they don't put a fan in the 401 combo, resulting in overheating? NOt a very good part on Marshall, although their vintage resisue stuff gets great reviews from everyone so i guess it evens out.

Re: The Price of a Good Amp.

lol, seems like I did the right thing in scoring a m/b mark IV.
DAAAAAAAAMNIT! I dont want to f**king wait for this amp anymore!
