I feel the same way.
Shame they didn't go with a Gotoh trem on the SE like they did the Core version. Doubt the cost difference would've been very much.

The Floyd Rose 1000 OEM price is approximately 75 dollars. The Gotoh 1996 is only 50 dollars more. This is shameful. Other than that, I think it's a great addition. I am still disgusted by the bumps for the jack and the switch though, but overall, I like the guitar regardless.

PRS is big on using small things, like a USB, to partition their cheaper versions of guitars.
I wouldn't pay $2000 for an oversea PRS when you can get a USA PRS for the same cost. Unless I REALLY wanted that specific body shape.

Well, yeah...if you want the same run-of-the-mill PRS everyone else has, then $2K will easily get you a solid S2, CE24, or well used Core model.
But early reviews suggest these SE versions are in grabbing reach of the USA Chleo in terms of quality and feel, despite being made "overseas".
I do think people should be aware that $1500+ Indonesian-made instruments are proliferating the intermediate level of the market and the ability to get a "USA" guitar in the $1500-$2000 range from ANY manufacturer is steadily going away.
I think we're going to see steep price increases in "entry level" USA lines like the S2 and CE24 over the next 12-24 months. The fact that you can buy a used S2 for well under $1K right now is a blessing...buy while you can! I doubt they'll stay that low for much longer once the public realizes what's actually happening in the market.
What does the USB do, anyway?
Oh, well that sort of makes sense. It is a better idea than a battery if you dig active pickups.

I honestly like it better than the USA version as well. That weird carve the US version has for the jack is horrendous. I swear, PRS are so beautiful most of the time, but sometimes their design choices really leave me wondering... like the deformed headstock on the Blue Sky, their ugly tuner tips they made a big fuss about, or that Explorer-ish abomination Mark Tremonti is hilariously proud of.
That being said, 2K seems a bit excessive for an SE when you can get a Cort with similar specs for like what? Less than half the price?
People often complain about LTD's being expensive for not being Japanese, but for that kind of sreddy guitar with active pickups, I feel like LTD, Schecter, Jackson, Ibanez, etc. have PRS SE beat by a country mile. At least when it comes to design/aesthetics.

According to an industry insider, the SE line makes PRS more money than all of their USA lines combined!

I definitely agree with this, but those companies built their brands with those types of guitars. It'll be interesting to see if PRS starts to lean more into this style. They had the Dustie Waring sigs not too long ago and just released the updated Core series Holcomb models, as well, which look killer!

I'd expect that this is true of basically all the cheap lines . . . PRS SE, Squier, Epiphone, whatever the ghetto Music Man guitars are called, Ibanez, etc. Now that cheap guitars play reasonably well and look OK, far fewer people are going to buy expensive instruments. There's just a way smaller audience for the expensive ones, and many of the techniques on high end guitars cost more time. I bet profit margins are lower on the expensive stuff than the cheap stuff.
Almost everyone I know that owns a PRS has an SE.
