The Race

JOLLY

Super Simonologist
I came up with this riff yesterday while playing bass, but I didn't like the tone of it. Sooooooooo, I changed the strings on my bass for something brighter. I threw on some Dunlop Bright Stainless Steels, and then I got the sound I wanted. I hit the record button, and this is what happened. For some reason it reminds me of drag racing. I'm going to try and get a buddy of mine to actually take it and make it into a video of drag racing with this music behind it. Personally, I dig it, and I hope you do too.

Re: The Race

Nice Jolly! You're really cranking em out lately. I agree with Twighlight -- could totally imagine this in Taladega nights or something. Very high energy, and some impressive finger drummin! I like the lead at the end too.

Thanks, fellas. It just kind of popped in my head out of nowhere and wrote itself

Re: The Race

I just got off of the phone with my buddy, Grinner Hester. He is the cameraman in this video. He's the one that almost got killed. He told me that he was getting ready to edit some video of some racing, and that he's been needing some music for it. He's going to use this song. I asked him to do a couple of different versions. For my version I want the song to end, and then it be him speaking like it is at :38 of this video. I think that would be cool as hell.:)

Re: The Race

How ironic. I post this, call Grinner, and they do a repeat on TV of him on Caught on Camera.

Re: The Race

Pedantic Semantics...decent band name, right there.

Great vibe to the track. Good stuff, VERY fitting for a race vid.

Re: The Race

cool stuff, dig the ride.

with your solos and melodies, are you thinking modes, pentatonic, etc. or just kinda going for it?

I never think about it. Those little melody fills I do are the last thing that I do 99% of the time. By then I have a pretty good buzz going on, and it's something that just pops in my head right at that moment. There's really never much of any thought put into it. Honestly, it's the whisky talking.

As far as solos go, I usually just go for it and rip out a few one take solos. Sometimes I'll get lucky and the first thing I play ends up being the solo. I think I got this one on about the third try or so. I had been over thinking it on the first couple, and nothing was sounding right, so on the solo you hear on this I just said the hell with it, hit the record button, and it just came out. However, sometimes I'll like what I played in parts of the solo, and then I just try and remember them and put them in the same place. I used to write most of my solos for the most part, and I think you can tell it when you hear those. However, I think everything I've been recording for the past 3-4 months or so has just been drunk gibberish, and me flying by the seat of my pants.
