The right amp

Hi everyone -
I've currently got a bunch of cash on hand from graduating, and I'm thinking about getting a new amp. I play a reasonably wide range of styles, but focus mostly on Metallica, Tool, A Perfect Circle, and to a lesser extent, Zeppelin and Rush type tones. My main guitar is an SG loaded with '59 and C5. I've played on some Marshalls (DSL401, TSL602) - I didn't at all like the TSL, and, though I liked the DSL some, I don't really think it's what I'm after. I've played only played a Rectoverb briefly, but it seemed like it would be closer to what I'm wanting than either Marshall. The only other things I've really tried have been 2 Line 6's (Vetta HD, HD147), both of which I thought sounded pretty good, and certainly had a lot of options.
What do you think would be good for me? I have up to about $1200, but would kind of like to stay under that. It doesn't have to be tube, but can be, and if it is, I'd like to keep the power level to some kind of sane level (50 watt or less).

Thanks for your help

i fell in love with the rivera nknuclehead when i played it, its extremely versitile. Im not sure if itlly be your thing, but chedck it out anyway.

Re: The right amp

I had a Rivera Knucklehead and it's the only amp I've really regretted getting rid of lately. It didn't have reverb so I finally gave up on it. It will do Fender on one channel and Marshall on the other. Very wide range of tone options. very interactive controls. If you don't like to tweak, stay away though. All the options are really nice, but it takes a while IMO to dial in the "right" tone sometimes.

Great amp though, right price as well if you buy used off fleabay. People that know the bands you listed better than me ought to respond. I can say that the Rivera K55 will definitely do Zep and Rush.

Re: The right amp

I'd hunt down a used Single Recto or Rectoverb.

I've heard some Line 6 stuff, and although it sounds nice at low volumes, it generally doesn't hold up as you turn it up.
