Re: The SDUG ULTIMATE AXE CHAMPIONSHIP !!!!!

I'll cast my vote for the Gibson Les Paul '59 as opposed to the Hamer Standard. The principal reason? The Hamer Standard is pretty much an outright theft of the Gibson Explorer design. Sorry to sound so harsh but it would be nice to see the finalists in a guitar poll to be based on designs that are at least somewhat original. Well, feel free to reply. :-)

I can't believe it, given my Screen Name... But that Lemon Burst is just to damn gorgeous to not get my vote. Sorry BTMN, but this round I choose the Les Paul :chairshot

Re: The SDUG ULTIMATE AXE CHAMPIONSHIP !!!!!

Hamer Standards were built to mimic a Les Paul in an Explorer shape in my opinion. Slag it if you like for it's borrowed design but it stands on it's own merits as a unique design. There are differances to Gibson's design but not noticeable unless side by side. Hamer was a guitar shop prior to becoming a builder and as such was a Gibson authorized repair shop at one time. They also dealt with vintage LPs and such and used the influences of that for sure.

Feel free to vote for the R9 should you like. We Good. :cool2: :headbang:

I have invoked my right to participate in a secret ballot, and can only confirm that I have made my choice...

Re: The SDUG ULTIMATE AXE CHAMPIONSHIP !!!!!

Not only am I aware that BOTH opponents are doing that - They have been encouraged to do so - as have all contenders by ME!

More on Duncan is more on Duncan! Now.....BAck to the BATTLE OF THE CENTURY.

PS - For the record, I'm pretty sure Lucid offered the services of local single moms for votes last time....
. I still think it's pretty pathetic if you have to ask and beg people to vote for you and you can't win on your guitars own looks. if I knew that was the case that I never would have entered any of my guitars in the competition. to me that's no different than entering your daughter in a beauty contest and slipping all the judges money so that they vote for her.

Re: The SDUG ULTIMATE AXE CHAMPIONSHIP !!!!!

They are both great and beautiful guitars! I do have a soft spot for Les Pauls though, so Meltking's R9 gets my vote.

Re: The SDUG ULTIMATE AXE CHAMPIONSHIP !!!!!

I just love that Les Paul Burst but as the owner of a 1982 Gibson Sonex 180 mutt (which has a 1988 SD 59n and JB bridge pups) I love my guitar because it has character so that said I just gotta go with the Hamer for that vintage vibe.

MAn - gonna be tough.

I do like a sweet Les Paul. But then again, Explorers rock too.

Gotta dig any burst, but I am a fan of the Cherry. Of course, the Lemon is unique.

Brand new Gibsons have a certain smell. Mmmmm. Then again, there is the beat to hell mojo factor.

I do love a SuperD....

I do love flame....

At least when Hamer copied something Gibson did in the 50s they got it right :)

Re: The SDUG ULTIMATE AXE CHAMPIONSHIP !!!!!

I voted R9. The Hamer is indeed dripping mojo, but those Les Paul curves are hard to beat.

Re: The SDUG ULTIMATE AXE CHAMPIONSHIP !!!!!

Whether or not something is a copy doesn't make a lot of difference to me. I don't award originality points in this case, because I think it's ludicrous. Today's Gibson didn't invent the Les Paul any more than Hamer invented the Explorer body shape. Gibson has changed hands twice since the original Les Pauls were made. Both of those companies have copied what the original Gibson company did. The only difference is that first Norlin, then Henry J. and gang, bought the legal rights to make copies. Big whoop. So you bought the OK to do so. It doesn't mean you aren't doing copies of what someone else did. Just like Hamer, they didn't invent the majority of the guitars they made/make. Norlin and Henry J., et al are no different than Hamer to me. The difference is that Hamer made better electric guitars than did any incarnation of the Gibson company, even the original one.
