The Shop

So you walk into a shop to look at some Marshalls because you think a Marshall should go good with your Fender and Mesa heads. On the shelves is a mini Silver Jubilee head, a 20w DSL head, and a JVM 205 head.
You want to try each out but the guy says for display only, gotta pay before you play and you smile and think, jeez, I haven't heard that in thirty years.
Which one do you figure delivers the grime, dirt and abrasive grit the best?

Re: The Shop

That is a sound response that I fully appreciate, but they have to come from afar.

Re: The Shop

Unless you are 12 years old I would not buy a pack of strings from that jerk. If you ARE 12, go back with your mom.

Re: The Shop

O.k so it'll be a tight squeeze in the casket though.
Perhaps I should rephrase.
I have to order the amps on line. The closest store that has 2 of the three models is 750km's from me, tough to try them out.
Which of the three are going to give me the most. Mostly just gritty sound ,which to me is full spectrum mids and not super bright treble with a looser but still decent bass and doesn't fall apart at volume.
Garsh, ya'll be so serious read a book and use your imagination.

Re: The Shop

the whole reason to go to a local store is to try stuff before you buy, otherwise might as well gamble online and get free shipping and maybe even a better deal. im all for shopping locally, the two stores i frequent are both locally owned and great. this doesnt sound like a great store

Re: The Shop

It's not a store. It's any store.
It has to be ordered on line. No ifs ands or buts.
I'm just trying to find out of the three amps mentioned, which is capable of getting the raunchiest. I am sure they all are good amps, which one is the dirtiest?
The above scenario didn't actually take place.

Re: The Shop

I would go for the Friedman Runt 20 for the same money as the Jubilee. For what the other two cost, I would look at the Marshall Origins.

Re: The Shop

You know I have thought about that. Guaranteed no chance of ever trying one though unless I drive for about 36hours.
Have you played one?
You ever played the JJ junior? That one seems pretty good but well, you know, youtube.

Re: The Shop

If you need more than 20W, then the JVM 205 would be the best choice. If 20W is enough, and you want the dirt, and they are available mail order where you live, the Friedman as Aryton mentioned would probably be the best choice. I like everything I've heard from and about those, but the classless jr high locker room type names on the amps are enough to keep me from buying one.

Good point normally but not in this case. Like My PRS MT 15 in that it runs a pair of 6L6's these little Marshalls all are running a pair of EL 34's and trust me they are NOT lacking in punch and volume!!
Played all 3 of those little Marshall amps when I was looking at smaller heads and bought the MT 15. Of the 3 the mini Silver Jubilee would have the highest gain. I was looking for a solid big warm clean and a more modern smooth high gain crunch so went with the PRS. The little Marshals however were all very nice amps and that little mini Silver Jubilee in particular I really liked.

Re: The Shop

I'd say screw this place and go re-buy a JCM-2000 TSL combo like the one I never should have sold.
