The Skinny Little Pedal Thread: Mooer vs Donner, Eno, Maleko, etc…

Well, I got a bunch of Mooers since this....

Solo - a great all around Distortion sound based on the Suhr Riot. Not as close as my US Dream, but pretty dang enjoyable
Black Secret - based on Rat. I like it. Had a real 80's rat on board for a year or more. Didn't dig the bottom end. Might be better goosing an amp. The 18v mode was vicious!
Pure Boost - Great boost. Wish the level was the big knob, not gain.
Ensemble King - One sound chorus, but a fantastic sound!!!
Reecho - I use the analog mode and really dig it. Has two other modes that are only slightly different to my ears.

Tone City Bad Horse. Sounds good, feels as sturdy as anything else I've come across. Will try out more of their stuff if I can motivate getting more pedals. Right now, its definitely more 'want' than 'need'.
Personally, I like the smaller enclosures. Saves space and the switches are no harder to hit than on larger stompboxes.

I just got a Donner Echo Square. Its a digital delay pedal. I have analog delay pedals but this is my first digital and I like it for my style of music. It sounds pretty good so far and tweaking is not so difficult. I hate tweaking.

I also got a Tone City Wildfire last year. Its a Suhr Riot clone. Its pretty good if you dial it in for some of the amps I have.

Just saw a shootout on YouTube... An Angry Charlie vs Tone City Black Tea...
I know it's just YouTube but... First impression... Amazing!
Thought the Black Tea was supposed to be a Vox... Sounds more like a Gov'ner
I must ck out the Wildfire now...

Have been trying to choose between a J Rockett 45 (and boost it) or the Newest version JHS Andy T (w/boost built in) I would set the gain low...
And of course... Wampler Plexi, Bogner La Grange... and all the others ( I think the Tech 21 Hot Rod Plexi sounds great too!)
So confused...

And Now... These Tone City pedals have really got me off course...

After buying quite a few Overdrives and Plexi style pedals, I’ve come to the realization (that is inevitable) that they are more similar than they are different. The Tone City would probably be great.

Just got a Donner "Harmony Square" Harmonizer/Pitch-Shifter type pedal. I already have a Mooer Pitchbox which sounds great, But the Harmony Square lets you blend in the wet & dry signals as desired & that really makes a difference when you want to detune using just the pedal :bigthumb:

..messing with the wet/dry signal also helps you cut through really well for Andy LaRocque-type harmonizer solo's.. (whereas the Mooer Pitch-box tended to get a bit mushy with those sometimes.). Another cool thing I noticed is with certain settings it makes your sustained notes go into infinite sustain/natural harmonics ..like with a cranked amp, but at any volume. Sweet!

And here's a short test/demo I just did :bigthumb:

Direct recording with the Donner pedal & my Mooer Radar IR loader (loaded with Celestion IR's...a Gold open-back 1x12 for the solo & V30 (4x12) & Creamback (2x12) for the L-R rhythm tracks..)

Cool. I'm always watching for a pitch box cheap. This seems even better.

FYI - we did an open mic audition, and I had to use my Mooer board (described a couple of posts above) into a clean Roland Cube.
Worked great and we got not one but two gigs out of it!

I had it in my gig bag, JIC - and it was a good thing!

Yeah, this IS better! I mean if I were to guess..it's probably a Pitch-box that's been modded a bit to include the wet/dry controls 'cause they both sound really similar.

I don't use a pedal-board, I just pick up stuff like this for recording & messing around lol, but if I did..I get one like yours for sure :D

I mean ...these things (mooers/hotones/donners etc) all sound very usable & actually pretty damn good, especially live & there's nothing to beat them for sheer convenience when you're gigging :bigthumb:
