I am sure there are many of you who enjoy Opeth agressive and some times mellow sound.... Does anyone of you know witch gear they use?

I know they use PRS and Gibson and Laney amps, but how about pedals, etc...?

Have you checked thier site? I havent been there in a while. Maybe the gear page says what they use? I've seen them live several times, but I could never make out what they were using.

Re: The sound of Opeth

I read that the slightly overweighted guy with wierd voice uses GT-6. His Laney (combo and stack) is set to a clean channel and he gets all the distortion sounds and other wierd sounds from BOSS GT-6. The skinny guy on the left is bleieved to use GT-5 with the same amp setup.

Re: The sound of Opeth

Sorry WFD, but its a FS/FS combo.

Gear as follows:

Mikael Akerfeldt
PRS CU24 (blue) with Full Shred neck and bridge
PRS CE24 (black) stock
Fender 70's RI (Nat.)
Gibson LP Standard (cherry sunburst) stock
Boss GT-6 provides all distortion and effects
Laney VC-30 combo for the clean/acoustic set
Laney GH100L head and matching cab for heavier set
Martin D15 acoustic
Takamine 12-String

Peter Lindgren
Gibson LP Custom (nat.) EMG 81/85
Gibson LP Custom (black) stock
Jackson USA RR (silver) stock
PRS CU24 (some honey color) stock
PRS CU24 (vintage sunburst) stock
Boss GT-6 provides all distortion and effects
Laney VC-30 combo for the clean/acoustic set
Laney GH100L head and matching cab for heavier set

Martin Mendez:
Fender Marcus Miller (nat.)
Laney B2 Head and matching cab

They use really light distoriton and a very crunchy tone, listen closely to the palm mutes, for they're often dead.

Re: The sound of Opeth

u also gotta remember - deadskins analysis of the laney amps and gt6's working together is what they use LIVE

in the studio (at least for deliverance)
there are 4 guitar tracks on each song
2 are Laneys, 2 a Mesa Triple Rectos - not using the gt6 gain
i believe most of the effects on the album were created by Steven Wilson thru Logic - not gt6's

Re: The sound of Opeth

ishmun Is right, but it wasn't 2 laney's.

They did one stereo take with a Peavey 5150, and one stereo take with a triple recto.

i got my info about the tracking of deliverance from a guitar world interview : http://www.guitarworld.com/gearreviews/axology/0203.opeth.html

there it says they used the laney vh100L's and triple rectos

but i kno on the albums previous, they used the 5150s alot

take it easy

Ahh, I stand corrected. I just check my guitar world issue with that interview, you were right.
