The Spring Song

here's a rough version of a new tune, The Spring Song - to herald in and rejoice in the springtime season. meant to be played in a car with the windows down, hair blowin' in the wind.

Still working out some kinks, but gives you an idea. Plus I'm running out of time to work on it, hehe.

Guitars are through my bell pa with a ross distortion and mxr 6-band eq with the 7080 speaker cab. Just 2 main rhythms, left and right. bunch of goofy noodling guitars going on.

tried to channel kyuss, trouble, confessor, and coc (not sure how close I got there!)

Re: The Spring Song

awesome! this my fav of yours, cause of the tone and vibe.

what gear? I like how you tie the riffage together, nice crescendo part that hits the high notes before it goes back to the original riff. definitely some of the best stuff on this forum as far as the type of music I love - heavy rock. trippy ending on the solo how it goes high and then into a new riff.

EPIC!!!

Re: The Spring Song

thanks guys!

--------------------------------
gear was basically:

guitars -
esp m-1 with tone zone on L
ibanez rg550 with duncan distortion on R
most solos: stew mac body/warmoth neck guitar with bill lawrence L500L
(I was hoping for a more soulful solo, but it was kind of hard with the G/E/G/E backing riff)
bass was 5-string hamer into ada mp-1, then though amplitube svx

amps and such -
all 6-stringers through the Bell 20-watt PA into epiphone valve jr. cab with 7080 speaker (with the mxr eq [sort of a smiley face] and ross distortion in front)
I'll take a pic of the amp/cab setup later.

mic was 57 clone straight on, touching grill cloth, about 1-2" off center
wah was morley bad horsie
one of the doubled solo guitars had a marshall jackhammer instead of the ross to mix things up
all tracked in a fostex mr-8, transferred to logic express to mix

drums were ezd (might sub out the snare for a slate one)
most everything has compression in the box, including the master bus.

most riffs were made up using a bass fuzz pedal, but it doesn't record all that great, it's pretty harsh. at first, I sort of wanted the guitars to be abrasive then realized it's kind of a turn-off to most listeners.

someday I'll get a mic stand. I actually went shopping for one, but got cold feet. it's a big investment. just realized the amp was on 1 when I recorded. seemed a lot louder than that.

whoops, the amp is 10 watts, not 20.

Re: The Spring Song

That looks like a head that Kevlar would have in his collection.

Re: The Spring Song

I should just get the matching head like you gots, yours sounds good.

!

thanks, cheers man

I did all the rhythym guitars for my songs segway and and forest whispers

sounds huge for a $100 combo

I say just stick with what you have though, that is the point of me recording like that, just to play/record/compose and not worry so much about gear/tone

I have a biiigggg gas prob! :baby::biglaugh::yell:

cheers!

Very cool ...tight :cool2: some parts have that old Black Sabbath feel...

Re: The Spring Song

I dig that! It sounds really big without the guitars needing to be massively filthy, probably bigger than they would have sounded with more dirt. It kept me interested all the way through with something for the brain as well as the feet and balls. Awesome work man.
