I've stated many times that the exact same p'up set could work wonders in one guitar and be completely appalling in another.

That's the very nature of the beast, and no amount of money thrown at it will ever change this simple fact of life.

Another thought on DCR...

It's also possible that the white Full Shred has a dead coil or one of them is shorted out. I had a Strat with a weak sounding Custom 5, and it turns out that a friend had accidentally grounded the red and white conductors; effectively a permanent coil split.
