The things that should NOT be DONE

Re: The things that should NOT be DONE

People shouldn't make ridiculous blanket statements about how others should approach guitar tone.

Re: The things that should NOT be DONE

The Dirty Sanchez or a Hot Carl for that matter

Never let EMO be heard AGAIN!!!!

Only give EMO's the dreaded Hot Carl!:smokin:

Re: The things that should NOT be DONE

1. Scooping mids in a melodic/technical metal band. You won't cut through and it usually sounds like ass

2. Dating female band members

3. Using thin strings on low tunings. Lot's of mud but no tone.

Re: The things that should NOT be DONE

(insert rant about how not all kids are like that and only the select few that you encountered are HERE)

. . . very true, but UNLIKE YOU, i still know a lot of guys that do & say real stupid things, and worst of all is, they actually believe what they say !!!

Like . . . "my Peavey Bandit has much better tone than any valve amp here tonight. I 'll never get anything else !" - this guy was about 19 or 20 !!!

(and there was some pretty impressive amps there that night !)

Oh well
;)

ding ding ding

we have a winner!

Some of the statements in this thread are downright ignorant, close-minded, and indicative of a lack of relevant experience.

That said, completely scooped death metal on the neck pickup of a hollowbody drenched in reverb could only sound like absolute poo. :)

Re: The things that should NOT be DONE

I had some kids over and was showing them my gear. I got to my 1967 fender champ (tube ). I told them it was 6 watts. and instantly everyone thought i was an idiot and thought the amp was crap cuz it was only 6 watts. I cranked it to ten and really changed their minds.

Re: The things that should NOT be DONE

30 watts is enough, really, you don't need more!

Ha, yeah. I was assembling parts for a home brew. My jam mates thought that building a 5 watt amp was a waste of time, as only a mosquito would hear it. Once built and cranked they were floored by the yummy sound and volume!

And you're more likely to use the full range of a 5-watt amp than you are a 50-watt amp. Remember: A 5-watt amp is half the volume of a 50-watt amp, not one tenth the volume. That makes it a loud amp still...and more versatile in a lot of instances. If it's not loud enough, mike the sucka!

Re: The things that should NOT be DONE

30 might be enough. But I can run a 50watt balls out and it seems just about right.

120watt is a tad excessive for my uses though heh.

Re: The things that should NOT be DONE

People who buy high wattage tube amps and never turn the master volume past 2 completely mystify me. If you're not going to make the power section work, why get a tube amp at all? A solid state amp and a good pedal would accomplish the same thing for 1/4 the cost.

I have nothing against tube amps in general, but I do want to slap the people who buy them just so they can say they have one. I have the utmost respect for people who gig with 18 watt class A combos, and they usually have the nicest tone too.

you could classify me under this. 80w of tube power + high sensitivity speakers = more amp than i'll need. even at band practice i have to make sure i dont drown everyone else out BUT

volume below '2' the budda still sounds better than ANY solid state amp i've played and most tube amps. people familiar with over rated amps with brand names starting in 'm' somehow think tube amps ONLY sound good at high volumes. maybe your 'm' amp sounds like crap below 2 but not all of them do. my amp may sound better at high volumes but it still sounds great at low volumes (it takes a few min to get it at a low volume though, man this thing gets loud fast).

it's also nice to have clean headroom. i have more clean headroom then i'll ever need and loads more than any lower volume amp.

Never..NEVER say never ......................I mean you don't have to do it twice :naughty:
