The things we do to get gear

No effects

I came to the self-evident conclusion that I needed to buy a power attenuator for my plexi re-issue. No, it wasn't hard to convince myself of this - bleeding ears and all - but I also had to find a way to free up the cash. I had some overtime in the bank and my manager accepted to have it paid out to me: I was in business. So off to the store I went, but wait, they are fresh out of Dr. Z Air Brakes and orders take a long time to come in (noooooooooooooooo!!). I thought they were the only store in town to carry this brand but another store came through for me and $30 cheaper too! I am now in a state of temporary GAS relief.

Well you didn't resort to theft, violence, selling drugs, or hitting the salesman over the head with a brick and running with the gear out of the store... I say that was a pretty successful trip to relieve gas!

Nice score man, let us know how good it works.

What freaks me out is when we spend significant money to get small spare parts that don't even make much difference. Tonepros bridges, custom shop pickups, Hoveland capacitors, Hotplates, Monster cables, recording software etc. That stuff costs real money, yet it may be some insignificant little part for a guitar that isn't even your main guitar!
That's when GAS gets silly.

Yeah, but its better to spend it on your guitar, than stuff like that for a car.

Haha this forum and others like it are slightly to blame ;)

But lots of these little mods at once may make some difference...at least thats what we think when we're justifying the money :D

You mean like the 'Truck Nutz'? :laugh2: Don't worry, it was never a consideration. However, I coulda bought a guitar with what my new tonneau cover cost me. :smack:

Working fast food... Gear owns me.

Welcome to my world :laugh2:

I buy something that I know I can't lose too much money on, stick around with it for a while (while saving money in the meantime) and then sell it and buy something even more expensive and better!

I'm friends with some auto crazed racers and the amount of money they spend on stuff is nothing short of obscene. A decent upgraded engine for them costs used about 8 grand! If I were in their shoes, I'd turn around and buy a Dumble ;)

I spend a ridiculous amount of money on gear and do a ridiculous amount of research, but I love it :) There's something that happens to you when you start finding truly killer tone. Tone is so individualistic and that's the beauty of it all: one man's treasure is another's trash. I love reading up on the latest gear and dreaming up of my end-all rig... I'm getting closer everyday :smoker:

My life consists of hardcore schooling, 30 hours/wk Subway, and my gf of 19 months (I fit her in every once in a while :D)

I havnt resorted to selling drugs or theft, but I have resorted to selling the answers to homework, working on guitars, and playing designated driver (I made 170 bucks one night). That's when the extended wheel base on a truck comes in handy. I can comfortably fit 17 drunk fully grown people in the back of my truck. Dont nobody go stealing my idea.

Nice. You're definitely an entrepreneur man!! The craziest thing I've ever done to get gear is selling my car. I sold it to pay off some of my student loans, which I did, but inevitably some of that money found it's way into the register at Long & McQuade!!...oh well, such is life. :D

i trade as much as possible now, keeps the parents happy when it comes to 'you waste your money'-type discussions

means i've gone from 5 guitars to 2 though, and i don't miss a thing :D
