The Time Has Come:

My amp sold within hours on Ebay. It was a Mesa Single Rectifier Series 1, and I had no footswitch, so I didn't expect the $800 Buy it Now so soon.

So now that it's actually go time I'm second guessing myself on what amp I should go for. I'm very indecisive.

Right now, for a Harder Rock, not really Metal amp, these are what I'm thinking:

Marshall JCM 800 4104 (2x12 Combo of the 2204, Single Channel 50w)
Orange Rocker 30 (Leaning away from this)
Marshall JCM 900 SLX Head

I know the 800 might need a boost but I'm fine with it. I'm kind of gassing to try out Xssive's Monroe Drive anyway. The 800 is the one i'm leaning towards lately. I've read everyone should own a JCM 800 atleast once in their lifetime. Also once I sell my Cab, I'll be A/Bing it with either a Vox Ac30CC or Fender Twin Reverb for cleans.

The 800 Option seems more sensible, I won't have to mess with all the cables of the Tonebone Headbone, and 2 2x12 combos is easier to fit in a car than a Halfstack.

I'm open to suggestions though, anything I haven't thought of. I don't want another Mesa as I'm really not into the low/low mids but more highs. Also I prefer an amp I can just set and be good, not one where I'm constantly messing with the Settings.

Thanks in Advance guys!

Re: The Time Has Come:

I think Laney's work great for heavy rock stuff. Check out a GH-50L or GH-100L if you like the single channel thing. Otherwise, a Slawn would be great if you don't mind paying for it.
Out of the stuff you are looking at I would go with the JCM 800 for sure.

Re: The Time Has Come:

I like the sound of the 800 also, but why would you settle for a combo? That restricts a crucial part of the sound, the cab. If you are going to run it with a close back extension cab or whatnot, then I assume you would be fine. This part is always fun!

Re: The Time Has Come:

Right now I have a possibility on each amp mentioned.

Possibly Orange Rocker 30 1x12 for 950 Shipped.
Possibly JCM 800 2204 Head for 950 Shipped.
And the most appealing is a MkIII Jcm 900 Head with El34's for 500! Part of me wants to buy that just to resell for more.

Re: The Time Has Come:

Go amp shopping, where you can hear everything firsthand. Then, your choice will be obvious...not a crapshoot based on what works for others. Just my 2 cents in all threads asking what amp to buy.

Re: The Time Has Come:

I love Orange amp but I don't knwo the Rocker, I now the AD30 is my kinda amp!

The JCM800 combo is a great idea, BUT do bare in mind you cannot easily make it a head, and the combo cab does not have the classic Marshall with a Big cab tone. Also, 800s can be kinda inconsistent, esp as you get into the later ones so do try before you buy if possible.

I have seen a lot of LATE 70s JMP combos with G12-65's on TGP and I HIGHLY recommend you go shop for those. They are in your range and they are the bee's knees!

Re: The Time Has Come:

I'd love to Amp Shop but the only stores I have around here only stock for beginning to intermediate gear, the highest end amp at the closest store to me is a 6505+.

There is a Guitar Center in Syracuse but I don't even know if they would have Orange's or Marshall JCM's.

EDIT: Just found an Orange Rocker 30 Head for 900! Waiting for the store to open so I can call but I'm pretty excited! If I don't like it, I could probably sell it on ebay for a tiny profit or atleast break even.
