It's a great Humbucker!!!A little less articulate than the sh-6 Distortion ,louder ,has more harmonic and musical structure.Ofcourse more bass ,more balls and less definition!!
I made some clips and i wish it helps to the "curious" ones.
all my clips where made with my Peavey V type Neck-thru String-thru.Basswood body ,24,3/4" scale ,maple neck and rosewood frettboard.D'addario strings 13/64.
I recorded everything with Acid 6 pro and Line 6 Toneport. No mastering made on the single tracks.
here we go ,

I have to play it more to say how i feel about it.It is not well defined on my guitar ,but not muddy.Really Powerfull as Jackson Distortion said ,and again as he said "IT IS BLUDGENNING"...More Hi-fi sound and less string noise.
And my guitar is "not" Floyd equipped!!!And it works well!!(Thanx Theodie for his help with his threads)

Thanx for your time and enjoy!!!:laugh2:

NICE write up!

I thought the one D!ck had in his PV strat was really cool, a very good pup, especially to fatten up your tone.

Thank you Luke, yeah ,actually i didn't needed to "fatten up" my tone since my guitar is string and neck-thru and basswood ,but it has more "character"I don't rreally know how to explain ,but it is really "different".It deserves definetly a try!!!Thanx SD.Great job!!

Re: The Ultimate Parallel Axis Distortion Trembucker Thread

Yeah, I loved the pickup. It wasn't what I wanted for my Peave, but it sounded good. I think it would kill in a Jackson, and AmpliFIRE confirmed that when I sold it to him. I'd have liked to keep it, but I had too many pickups and not enough guitars and money. I think I'll have a Charvel or Jackson type strat with one in it someday, though. I think it would be the ultimate.

Ya havin' fun yet db? I sure am! Your clips were very cool for those curious.:smokin:

Keep givin' it a whirl, you may keep it... may not. BTW, how much bass and gain were you using throught the tracks? It sounded like it flucuated from track to track, I'm just curious.

Re: The Ultimate Parallel Axis Distortion Trembucker Thread

In the song Breath, I personally like the PATB-2 more.

I'm assuming the guitar on the left is the original Distortion.

It makes really fun!!!The best thing is really nice full lead tones. That was the (-) on my Distortion.I have to change all my "tone artillery" cos it is a different world now!!!a totally different tonal character.
There are so many different tones on my clips!!!I can't really tell wich what i used ,since i have made them 5 minutes after i installed my Patb-2!!!Thats why ,that i didn't played tidely!!!Anyways ,if you can ask spesific clip questions ,i can tell you ,since i can compare the tones and tell you what i did!!
Oh and thank you for your advise and help and time and everything. You are one of the main factor that i gived a try!!!:banana::banana:

Yess ,left is the Sh-6!!!
There are two versions of breath!!!so you can check the older version for a better comparison too.And ofcourse ,since it is a baking track i made for you guys ,you can play a solo on it and send to me!!!^^.iwould be glad to hear and share the ideas on it!!!

Re: The Ultimate Parallel Axis Distortion Trembucker Thread

Glad my information could help you out... no trouble at all.:)

So ya just used your standard setup -install, then played...? I could still hear the PATB-2 traits on some of tracks. Sometimes it sounded thinned out, but I'm sure you'll dial it in a way that it shines.:)

Yeah it is not easy to change almost 35 "tones" on Toneport to fit the PAtb2.The cornford models really "frustrate" under the gain structure. The 5150 has no problem at all ,the Marshall models are better now!!!The ac30 and bassman are very confortable wiith it.Oh btw ,it is too "strong" for the diezel tones.so i have to change alot!!!

Re: The Ultimate Parallel Axis Distortion Trembucker Thread

The Lead with the PATb-2 is awesome.Rich ,not trebly ,and nice ringing. It reacts well on hammer-ons .The more i play .the more i get closer to it's sound. It is hard to "love" it after Sh6 Distortion.I like treble and i found it too bassy ,but i am familiar now with it and it sounds amazing.Riffing and soloing with the same bucker is great.
i tried it out with many amp models and amps..here is my review.
Dual Rectifier:It suits well for Dropped tunings.Or lower open tunings. But there are too much "bass" frequencies. So it is hard to get a trebly sound. It is tight enough and crunches well.
Marshall JCM 800:Well ,cool crunch with lots of Balls. It drives it well and with the 1960 cab ,it has a nice range of mids.
Marshall JCM 900 50w:Great tone,Very nice leads ,without any efects. Not so well for fast riffing.Needs a Tube screamer to tighten up!!
VOX Ac 30 :i LOve it.It is really ROCK!!!.i mean it shakes well...heheh..
Fender BASSMAN:nice clean tones.really nice.with reverb and a short delay.it is like a dream
SLO 100:This is the only Amp model that i can get so many different tones out of.With the Distortion ,it was not that way!!!This is a good combination and it sounds unique!!!

Have you decided to keep it or switch back to the SH-6?
Well on my peavey ,i will keep it anyway!!!Since the Sh6 was a tad better on rythm side ,the PATb-2 is a killer on both sides.every single melody and notes are better presented. And the poliphony works better. So if you play a fat Drop C chord and try to ring an a on 2 oktaves higher,it doesnt work so good on the sh6 ,but the PA does it well.I built the Sh6 on the neck now ,and it is weird.Sh6 on the neck is very similar to PA on the bridge. And still is Sh6 brighter:eek13:.This is really weird:fingersx:

Re: The Ultimate Parallel Axis Distortion Trembucker Thread

Daemon B,

I have a distortion. I find that it sounds best with the mids on the amp dialed up.
How does this one compare to the distortion as far as gain? bass/mid/treble?

Awesome clips! great tool as Im curious about this pup but few seem to know much about it

Re: The Ultimate Parallel Axis Distortion Trembucker Thread

Well The Sh-6 is a tad aggresiver than the PATB-2.PATB-2 is more controlled ,but complex in mids.So Finding a good tone is easy. The SH-6 is more penetrating ,but the PATB-2 is fuller and wider in feeling. Both are great and have their own qualities.I just can recommend both Equally. But PATB-2 is a tad better in quality i think.ANd deserves it's price!

Re: The Ultimate Parallel Axis Distortion Trembucker Thread

Thanks for guiding me here, Daemon.

So do you think the PATB2 would work with this Mahogany body/neck guitar? Rosewood fretboard, 24 3/4 scale? Bolt on neck.

What would be a good complimentary neck pickup for clean stuff and solos? A duncan Jazz neck pickup? A '59 neck pickup?

Right now it has 2 full shreds. But I'm looking for the best bridge pickup for thick, yet defined distorted stuff and the best neck pickup for clean stuff and solos.

Re: The Ultimate Parallel Axis Distortion Trembucker Thread

it's a very nice axe man!
Nothing to thank bro!The best neck for the PATB2 is mostly the PATB1.But i don't know how dark your guitar is.Maybe you should get 2 fresh 1MOhnm pots for making it a tad brighter!
