Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Superstart FINALS Poll !!!

Can't help but feel like I got snubbed.... I mean a tie is a tie is a tie. Either have a vote off for the tenth spot between me and BTMN, or put me and BTMN through at the same time. At this point I know its too late but it just wasn't fair. If I lost in votes I wouldn't even be typing this but I didn't. I also I can't help but think there was a slight bias on Acemans part being that BTMN is on your friends list. Don't get me wrong all of these axes are freakin sweet and Good Luck to everyone that made the cut.

But for what its worth I voted for KeeperOS Stinnett SS6. That axe is too epic for words. Its too bad Will isn't taking Custom Orders for a while. None the less I will own a Stinnett Custom in the near future!

Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Superstart FINALS Poll !!!

Thanks man but you KNOW you have one truly GAS-worthy axe and it don't need any poll to tell you that.

I don't know if it makes any kind of a difference but I think the Charvel got chosen not because it's any better or worse than yours but rather for the same reason several people voted for the Kramer or the BC Rich.
It's not about the awesome axes that they unarguably are but rather that they give off that 80s vibe that originally gave birth to SuperStrats.
They represent the beginning while yours (and arguably mine) are the evolution of what was started with them.

Again, I doubt that makes any kind of a difference but at least take solace in the fact that yours STILL was chosen among several dozens (or was it close to a hundred?) and then voted that much closer to the final 10. It IS a truly awesome axe! (not that you need me or anyone else to tell you that ;))

Where's all the Kramer love? :fing2:

Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Superstart FINALS Poll !!!

Bump the red Schecter! I had to smuggle it into this country so that's gotta be worth a few extra points :fing2: Well, let me tell you about my grandfather's watch... LOL.

Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Superstart FINALS Poll !!!

I am glad you chose the Schecter over the Edwards, it is a pretty awesome guitar, now if it was one of the 24-fret, non-guard models... Oh Mama!!!

(Not that it's not incredible as it is, just stating personal preferences, could you tell? ;))

I hear you man...props to KRAMER all around! They were the first to tote the flag for Floyd Rose equipped guitars, and credit to EVH and Floyd Rose working together to develop what is arguably the most important part of a SuperStrat -the OFR!

Man the Edwards was incredible, and sounded killer with that Duncan Custom in the bridge. I could have gone either way but there was a lot more interest in the Edwards. I plan to pick up two more Schecters next summer. One will have a standard trem and the other will be direct mount without the pickguard. I like the blue quilt for that one.

I voted for my KF bro's BC Rich :laugh2: Never been a fan of Kline graphics. Always reminded me of those guys you would see in the mall during the 80's.

Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Superstart FINALS Poll !!!

FWIW I have not spoken to Aceman in at least 3 weeks and had no influence in his decision. Interestingly, I voted for your guitar and promoted it's inclusion in the preliminary thread.

BTMN I appreciate your honesty. I don't know you personally but you seem like a stand up guy and I respect that. I just wish things could have been more fair in the selection process in the case of a tie breaker. Whether it was a head to head vote off or just sending both of us through to the final. At this point its water under the bridge as they say.

Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Superstart FINALS Poll !!!

Throwing out a guess as to the exclusion, I would say no trem versus trem. In looking at the final 10 up now we all have a trem system. Your sweet Jackson had none and there was comment in the prelim thread about that aspect. That is no disrespect to you. Besides it's a non scientific fun poll anyway. No trophys or beauty queens at the end either.

Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Superstart FINALS Poll !!!

Red sparkle... In so many ways it embodies what I feel a super strat should be.

Thank you Sir! I appreciate the vote! :fing2:

I've had two Klines, a Kramer Baretta "Space" Graphic 24/62 which was cool and a Custom Dreams (they were a NJ Store who are most prominently know for making custom guitars for the Skid Row Guitarists and Zakk Wylde in the 80s) "Hollywood" and both were nice, but not on the artistic level of the BCR Dan Lawrence "Graffiti" and "Lightning Sky" Graphics that I currently have.

I'd really like to see a full shot of that Schecter.

Dang this is tough. So far I'm thinking Grafitti, Schecter, Clone Stinnett, Hamer. But that could change next time I look at the pics!!!!

I'd feel sooooo bad@$$ playing that Gunslinger...unfotunately I don't think I have the chops for it!!!!!

Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Superstart FINALS Poll !!!

That Clone kicks ass....but I may be bias. :laugh2:

Superstrats are cool, I think I should get one. :p

Yup, with Charvel being right there next to them. Both of those companies defined the superstrat. I love my Focus too (MIJ). It plays and feels amazing.

There where Kline and Knapp graphics. I always though that Kline's were cleaner, looked more professional. There are some of Kline's graphics that I've seen a ton of, like the broken glass, Hard Rock, skulls. But this NYC graphic on mine, I have yet to see another one just like it. There is another NYC graphic out there, but it's not a Kline.

I plan on keeping my Baretta and passing it down. It's too unique to let go. I don't play it out much anymore other than for private parties and such, but no bars anymore. At some point, I may hang it in a display case as a "never forget" reminder, though I won't anyway.

I still dig Klines & Knapps and think their graphics are way cool. I would have kept the Space (Maple Body too) I had had it not been for an auto accident, the resulting 3 surgeries/job loss/7 month unemployment stint and resultant financial problems that caused me to have to sell it...

Same w/the Custom Dreams "Hollywood" (in hindsight) just because it was one of my absolute favorite graphics, but, it just didn't work out at the time I had it.

Def. hang onto the "NY", it's a beauty and rare as well. :fing2:

Re: The ULTIMATE SDUG Superstart FINALS Poll !!!

What blows me away are the number of Barettas that people have mucked up by either routing for a neck pickup or adding a control or switch. They kill the simplicity of them, which is the beauty of them to begin with.

I can see your Space Baretta had a neck pickup installed. While it looks good and all, it's just wrong to me. Heck, the previous owner, or one of them (not sure how many previous there are) of my Baretta put a tone control in it. I remedied that real quick and plugged the hole. I would like to find something else to plug it with rather than what I did, but it works.

When I got it, it had a different pickup in it too. I don't even think it was a Schaller. It was not a JB I can tell you that. After having a Custom Custom in there and a few others, including a different JB, I tracked down an old MJ wound reverse-zebra JB from the 80's and tossed it in there. Now it's pretty much back to stock form when it left the NJ factory.

Yeah, I've had two 1986 Barettas - the Space and a F/F Blue Clawretta and each had a neck single coil professionally routed by the prior owners, ala George Lynch I suppose, but I actually like having the Neck S/C so it wasn't an issue for me.

Original/Unmolested Barettas are going for crazy money on eBay anymore it seems, even w/the economic downturn. I don't worry too much about modifications if they're minor and done right, esp if it's a cool guitar to begin with.

At any rate, yours is def. a looker and those MJ JBJs are hard to beat - GREAT pickups!
