The vacuum tube strikes back

Maybe this was meant to be in a different section of the forum but people owning tube amps can have a smile and appreciate the irony of this: Some of the tube construction principles applied into mosfets to overcome their limitations and achieve smaller and faster chips/procesors.

Does it change how amps will be made? I don't think so but it is a nice conversation ice breaker for gear geeks!!!

Re: The vacuum tube strikes back

Hmm interesting. I'm sure the cork sniffers will say that they won't be better than the NOS tubes but if they can make a tube that more reliable and efficient like a SS transistor I wonder what the possibilities could be.

Re: The vacuum tube strikes back

mmm when these things become widely available, I predict there'll be lotsa really awesome sounding effects and solid state amps that may even make actual tubes obsolete (finally)

Re: The vacuum tube strikes back

Cool! I look forward to this becoming a reality. Once that happens I'd really like to see and hear them in action in guitar amps!

Re: The vacuum tube strikes back

Wait, it is not going to be a miniaturized tube or asolid state(wich already exists by AMT by the way), its gonnabe the love child of tubes and mosfets :), as I said, apply vacume tube construction principles into mosfets :) anyways I know this was a funny thing to read for guys in this forum using tube amps.

Re: The vacuum tube strikes back

I remember reading an article about this last year. At that time they were still planning on using a vacuum in them and were referring to them as micro tubes. Sounds like things have progressed quite a bit.

Can't wait until they're available on the open market. The possibilities these things will open up is almost mind boggling to consider.
