The verdict is in on the Antiquity II Surfer...

I installed an Antiquity II Surfer in the neck position of my Godin LGT last night and all I have to say is...WOW! :laugh2: :laugh2: This pickup is hands down the best strat pickup I've played. It's chimey, sweet, smooth, sounds great both clean and under mild to moderate overdrive...everything I could ever want in a strat pickup. It also has this "mojo" about it that I haven't heard in any of the other single-coil pickups I've tried in this guitar (fender texas special, aps-2). It's hard to explain, but it's just more complex sounding with a certain "air" around the notes.

I guess the only downside is that the Duncan Custom I have in the bridge completely overpowers the Surfer, although it's a great pickup in itself. Perhaps a lower output pickup like the 59' or Alcino II Pro would balance better?

Thanks everybody for all your help, especially Lew for his great advice and who ultimately sold me the pickup! :)

I Love the Surfer neck and middle pickups also...Great pickups....Your review sounds like a verbatim of the tone language some of us use! ;o)

Glad you like them..Doesn't get any better than those pickups!

Hey! This thread is interesting!

How would you think that the Surfer could compare to teh A2P Sc, which is my favourite SC? :)

Sorry for going moderately off topic :D

I don't own them but I know what those sound like... bright as hell... I wouldn't like them because they are a bit too bright for me... also.. you shouldn't ever yuse them trhough a SS amp...

Well, i need extremely chimey, brilliant and strong sounding SC's ;). The worst thing i know is a "woody", "hollow" or muddy Sc :).

One thing i dislike though, is "hard" sounding Single coils, with tons of high\sharp mids!

It has to sound like a piano on the bottom strings, and deep and clear on the higher strings, sort of..... well..... glassy :)

You understand now? :laugh2:

The Antiquity Texas hots and Surfers don't possess any harshness or ice picky tone, but they are complex,"airey"and do have that certain vibe that only the Antiquity series have? Must be the smell or the old looking cloth wire that does it? ;o)

Re: The verdict is in on the Antiquity II Surfer...

I think the Surfers are definately what you're looking for Erlend...

Yeah, thanks alot guys, but back to the old question: How do the surfers compare to the Alnico 2 Pro single coils that's in my uncle's strat? :)

The Surfers are chimier, glassy sounding but not at all harsh or too toppy..The Surfer is just a better pickup...You do get what you pay for...

Could someone compare the Antiquity Surfers and Texas Hots for me?

I just got this guitar off of e-bay. It's crying out for a set of Surfers.
