Re: The Well 8. It's party time with the Collins Brothers!
was this back in your detroit days? lets here the story....:deal:
Yep. Actually, at the time I was living in Ann Arbor. I had acquired some late 50's Gibson humbuckers from a Gibson ES-350 and they were specially made to have a little closer polepiece spacing - just like the closer string spacing on Ted's Byrdland guitars. Al Nalli, of Al Nalli Music in Ann Arbor gave me Ted's phone number so I could offer them to Ted. I called, Ted answered the phone, and he invited me out to his farm in Hell, Michigan.
We spent most of the afternoon together. Great guy! Super nice to me.
He showed me around the farm, and we just hung out and talked about music and such...no politics. It was before he became known for being such a right winger.
Then we went inside and Ted showed me his '62 Fender Deluxe amp with an Electro Voice SRO 12" speaker - the amp he'd used for Cat Scratch Fever.
We plugged in and played together for a while and he was very gracious and asked me questions about my playing and even asked me slow some things down and show him what I doing - although he probably knew exactly what I was doing and was just being complimentary.
Then he had me install the old paf in one of his Byrdland guitars, he tried them, liked them, and payed me what I was asking and didn't try to talk me down.
I liked him.
We used to go hear Ted's band the Amboy Dukes when I was in high school and I remember him from an even earlier band called the House of Lords I believe.
When I was a kid in Detroit in the mid 60's I thought of Ted as being the hottest rock guitarist in town.
