The Well CXXIII: Arkitkt - Hard Hat Area

Re: The Well CXXIII: Arkitkt - Hard Hat Area

What do you think you do really well in life, as opposed to just competently?

- I'm more of a Jack-of-all-Trades, Master of none kinda guy. If I had to pick one thing I'm really good at, it would probably be the computer part of my job (AutoCAD and Revit).
Oh, and I'm full of useless information, as my family would say. I have never lost a game of Trivial Pursuit.

Where do you want to go next?

- I'm actually quite happy with where I'm at. I dream of going back to Germany some day, thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail and building another guitar (That's probably going to happen in reverse order).

Which person, living or dead, do you have the most admiration for?

- My dad, who started out dirt poor and without a father (died on the eastern front in '44) and through hard work and sheer determination managed to give a great home and childhood to 5 kids, and
- My daughter, who showed me how graceful you can be even when you know that things are coming to an early end.

Hello, hello, hello, is there anybody in there?

Love that song.

Favorit beer??
What other stuff would you love to play besides guitar?

- Weihenstephan Hefeweizen (I actually found a source for that in good old Virginia)
- I would love to be able to play the piano, but never had the time or patience to learn it. But I might still get started some day.

Edit: Thought of another instrument I would like to be able to play: a Chapman Stick. I saw Tony Levin a couple of times and was blown away.

Chapman Stick is no more difficult to play than a guitar strung for whichever hand your do not favour and, then, played upside down.

Sounds plenty difficult to me. I should probably try one. Problem is that they're not that common.

Were you born and raised in New Jersey?

Absolutely. I'm the illegitimate son of Shaquille O'Neal and Martha Stewart.

Actually, I was born in raised in Bad Kreuznach, Germany.

Artkitkt that pic of you and your daughter always makes me think of the greatness of you and her.
You have a look of almost unbearable sorrow, yet you keeping a stoic look in your eye probably for your daughters sake .
She is innocent, but you can see behind her beautiful smile a lot of pain . God bless you man.

Thanks.

1. What's your favorite car you have ever driven?

2. What's the word on the street?

1. My first car: an orange and white 1973 VW Bus. Gave me the freedom to go wherever I wanted, and stay for as long as I wanted (my parents agreed that I'd better sleep in the car after some nocturnal activities than driving home in an unsafe manner). Loved that thing in all its 50hp glory.

2. No idea.

What's the farthest north latitude you've ever been? And south?

If you could play any historical instrument for one day, which one would you choose?

North: Inverness, Scotland. Hitchhiking through the highlands in '89
South: Big Island, Hawaii, visiting the in-laws.
Come to think of it, that's actually pretty lame. Having kids kinda ruins your travel plans.

Historical Instrument: Not sure if it would be considered "historical", but I'd love to get my hands on Gilmour's black strat for a while. I'm not even sure if I would want to play it, since I wouldn't do it justice.

which country, or region has the worst german accents? did you worry about the russians invading germany when you were young? who was your favorite german speaking musicians, falco, kraftwerk, giorgio moroder or nena :?: :)

Re: The Well CXXIII: Arkitkt - Hard Hat Area

• Who's your favorite comedian?

• What do you do when a homeless person asks you for money?

• What's the worst movie you've ever seen and why didn't you like it?

- Accents: German Accents or Dialects are an interesting subject. Considering that Germany was united as one country only in 1871, the local dialects were and still are very diverse. For example, a person from the southern end of Bavaria and a guy from the northern coast might have some problem communicating, although these issues are largely disappearing since people nowadays are more likely to move around to seek job opportunities. The worst I ever heard was an old farmer from the coastal region close to Kiel. Couldn't understand a word he was saying.

- Not really. Having the Russians only 100 miles away was just a fact of life that we were used to. We were more nervous when politicians on our side were seemingly getting a little trigger-happy in the 80's (and I'll leave it at that).

- Musicians: Definitely Kraftwerk. They were decades ahead of their time. I still listen to them every now and then. Falco was good (very funny lyrics), Moroder was OK (not my style), Nena was just bad.

- Jon Stewart. The man is absolutely brilliant. Very smart, very quick. I'm also a big fan of Monty Python.

- I usually give them something.

- The absolute worst was some foreign movie (in Farsi, subtitled). I didn't understand a thing. I still give my wife crap for making me watch that. Apart from that, I usually find something positive in most movies I watch.
