Well in the classics section, I'm gonna have to go with Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. That book is amazing every time. As far as more contemporary books are concerned, Richard Matheson's 'I am legend' which the movie (not nearly as good as the book but still decent), is loosely based on.

Not necessarily my number one, but for anyone looking for a really really good read which has just recently come out, Cormack McCarthy's 'The Road' is awesome! Man I could go on for a while here, but yeah I guess those would be my picks.

I never really got into Primus. I can definitely recognize Les' talent, but the music itself just isn't for me. If I'm a lesser bassist for it then I suppose it can't be helped.

As far as playing with a pick versus fingers is concerns, I say use whatever you need for the song. I personally prefer my fingers because I'm actually faster with them, however, if the sound in the song can only be made with a pick, then play it with a pick. The bass is such a new instrument in relation to most others that it is impossible to tell the right and wrong way to play it. Play what you feel but don't force it.

As far as slap/pop is concerned, I personally haven't invested that much time into it. I can do a basic slap-pop but nothing to impress. That being said, I think that slap-pop is to the bass what uber fast tapping is to the guitar, sure it looks and sounds cool but its musical applications are few and far between. I know that some bands have made it big on slap-pop, however its such an aggressive way to play that I feel it takes away from the rest of the band (Some exceptions apply: Primus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.)

For all the money and yo-yo's in the world i couldn't tell you. It was round? Had a string? Oh...I remember our big thing was that it needed bearings to be cool. Other than that, I really don't know and didn't pay attention.

Not to go off topic, but I can totally remember that. Schoolyard politics dictated that all cool yoyos had to have bearings.

On the same note, in about the same period of time in your youth, what was your favorite pokemon? Don't lie, you had one.

Okay seriously though...I always used to start my gameboy version of Pokemon Blue with 'Charmander' which was the little orange fire dragon thingy. So yeah I guess that would be it! Although come to think of it, that big blue guy *pretends to look this up but actually knows his name off the top of his head* Snorlax basically eats and sleeps all day so I guy he's the one to envy nowadays.

Ever play any acoustic (upright) bass? If not, do you have any desire to? If so, who are your inspirations?

I have played the double bass. Not very often and never for more than 15 minutes at my old bass teacher's place. I must say it was a cool experience, it really is a different instrument altogether. You may as well compare the piano and the sax in terms of technique. As far as inspirations on the double bass are concerned, I can't honestly say I have any. Despite have studied under a formally trained jazz instructor (my jazz theory is pretty decent), other than the typical jazz of Mingus, Coltrane, Davis, etc, I don't know the players that well.
