Re: The Well XI. My name is Curly.

what 5 amps would you like to add to your collection?

boy, that's a dangerous question!

I would love to own a '65 Amps London. I did get to try a combo, and I would get the head & cab version, like the first one I heard. More bass, and the head isolates the EF86 from vibrations.

I still love the Matchless SC 30. It has about the best clean rhythm tone, but takes pedals well, can crank out a great lead tone, and it's built like a tank!

I also like a lot of Dr. Z's amps, and like his simple approach to design, but I just haven't gotten to play them enough to pick one. Besides the Maz 18 and Carmen Ghias, which are small enough to crank, I'd like to check out the new Galaxie and Maz GT - in fact, they would probably be great together because one is high gain, the other is tweed like.

The only question I think about is "which one of Curly's guitars should I try to pry away from him?"

I like them all, but his gold/rosewood strat hooked me when I tried it.

thanks!

I'm agreed ... I'm not a big fan of gold hardware, but it was the right thing to do with that guitar.

the good news is, that thing plays great, the neck is perfect, it sounds terrific (a very vintage tone from the SSL-2 set), and I plan to play the crap out of it. :)
