Re: The Well XLVI: Return of the Chrome Dome

:saeek:

Whatever happened to LC? Any idea?

Jus' wonderin'

As far as I know, Robin is currently living in the next city over with her brother, working a job and doing freelance artwork. I haven't talked to her at length for some time but I do hear from her every now and then and she sounds OK.

When are you getting married? It seems as I recall you saying that you are engaged.

Summer 2011 is the date we're shooting for. We want to finish our educations first... I'm going back to complete my AA and work towards a BA starting in the Winter 2009 semester and she just started work on her BA.

If you were to choose any instrument other than guitar to play, what would it be?

Piano/keys, without a doubt. It would open up a whole new world of possibilities for what I could do musically.

what do you think the likelihood is that you would ever leave CA to permanently reside in another state?
if you would, what reason(s) would be the most likely to precipitate such a move?
where would you most likely move?

Given the career direction I've chosen, it's unlikely that I'd move too far away from Southern CA. However, you never know what life will throw at you so anything's possible. The most likely reasons would probably fall into a career-oriented move or a cost-of-living issue. It's expensive to live here, but for the most part I like it here.

I don't know where I'd like to move to, as I haven't really done enough traveling. Based on the little information and experience I do have, I'd say Arizona, Colorado, Utah, or Texas.

Did you go back to the Dr. Pepper plant?

I have not yet had the privilege. I don't drink soda a whole lot anymore, but I'd make it a stop on my next road trip out past Waco.

Boxers or briefs?

Briefs. I don't like boxers a whole lot simply because they bunch up on me and they get too hot for me. However that doesn't mean I'm a tightie whities man... I go for black or dark colors.

You might also check out John Adams. I like his stuff too and it's also in the minimalist genre.
I will, thanks for the recommendation.

How do you like the "Possibilities" album? I really dig most of the stuff on there. And the one with Annie Lennox is the saddest song I've ever heard.

I haven't checked that particular one out yet. The last one I was listening to was A Tribute To Miles when I was on a Miles kick a month or two ago. I'll give that a listen as well, thanks.

Re: The Well XLVI: Return of the Chrome Dome

Do you ever miss that Silhouette you sold for that *sigh* Les Paul..? :D

Re: The Well XLVI: Return of the Chrome Dome

Not one bit. I like my LP way more than the Silhouette I sold it for.

My other Silo Special is a very near and dear instrument to me with tons of vibe and mojo and tone in it, and I've customized it a bit as well - it's never going away. The other Silhouette was pretty but it didn't have 'it' , you know?

I'd always been a Strat and Strat-type guy and it took me a while to appreciate what a good LP has to offer, but I got it eventually. This is a real good one too; it resonates like crazy.

This guitar also represents kind of a new beginning for me, as it came around at a point recently where I was getting rid of a lot of uneeded baggage with my living situation and my old band, and it suits my new project perfectly.

Re: The Well XLVI: Return of the Chrome Dome

Ya know, I can totally identify man. Until I got a LP for some time this summer, I was a Strat man. But that LP just had, as you said, 'it'.

So I'm glad to hear man!

Re: The Well XLVI: Return of the Chrome Dome

Is the Chrome Dome intentional or Nature just doesn't love you enough to have long, flowing, silky smoothy blond hair?

Plus, does your fiancée ever use your lack of cranial hair to punish you by slapping you on the noggin?

Inquiring minds couldn't care less, insane minds demand to know.

Your favorite shaving implements for your dome?

Would you go on "Dancing With The Stars" if they paid you enough?

Nature/genetics were mean to me really early on. By the time I was 19 I was already having pretty noticeable hair loss up front and by the time I was 21 or so it just got bad enough to the point where it seemed like I could see more and more of my scalp every day and I looked WAY older than I wanted to. So January 2006 I grabbed the buzzers, a razor and some shave gel and shwicked it all off.

When i was 17, this is what my hair looked like. :(

She doesn't do that, but occasionally what she'll do is sneak up behind me when I'm sitting down and blow a raspberry on top of my head, usually resulting in a rather juicy sounding fart/trumpet type noise and a weird tickle sensation on the top of the noggin.

most life changing episode for the better?

The whole process of growing my relationship with my fiance and developing our understanding of each other really helped me personally more than I could've ever imagined. We've both helped each other to become better people, and we inspire and support each other to the fullest.

most life changing episode for the worse?

I haven't had any one singular horrible thing happen to me that seriously screwed me up permanently, but there's been things here and there that were very hard to deal with and get over. Dealing with severe bipolarity as a teen and physical abuse from peers in grade school were probably the worse two among a small list of things that really affected me profoundly... those things caused issues with me that I'm still working through, bit by bit. As soon as i can afford seeing a shrink again I probably will go do that just to get some things sorted out.

life goal accomplished?

The fact that I can play guitar well enough to get compliments from total strangers and have written a few songs that some people really like are things that I'm very proud of.

life goal not yet accomplished?
Establishing a career doing what I love.

Your favorite shaving implements for your dome?

Currently a Shick Quattro with the Titanium blades, shave gel, and Dove soap.

Would you go on "Dancing With The Stars" if they paid you enough?
Yeah. I can't dance at all, and don't like dancing very much if I'm sober, but I need the money. I'm such a whore. :D

Situation question:

You're the last man on earth. And the winner of the Pink/Courney Love fight is the last female on earth. You have one bottle of beer, six candles, no matches, one 'Shrek: Original Soundtrack' and some dirty magazines of Paris Hilton.

Is the earth worth repopulating? And if not, describe the situation using all of the obove mentions items.

Seems like a perfect time to tell my Courtney Love joke... as told by a drummer who toured through Europe, opening for Hole in '95...

Whuz the difference between Wayne Gretzky & Courtney Love?

Gretzky takes a shower after three periods.

ba-boom!

What age did you pick up a guitar & start playing?

How about the first gig? Where, when & did you get paid?

I think in that situation, the earth would NOT be worth repopulating. I wouldn't F Courtney Love with Bea Arthur's dong, plus even if I did there'd have to be some heavy duty incest going on, probably resulting in offspring that look somewhat like a cross between danglybanger and Gary Coleman.

I'd have no idea what to do with said items, so I'd burn them in a ritual sacrifice and then go commit suicide by jumping into an active volcano.

Chops told me this joke last night. I LOL'd. :D

What age did you pick up a guitar & start playing?

How about the first gig? Where, when & did you get paid?

I picked up the guitar in April 1998 and I was pretty serious about it right away. I was 14 then and from then until age 17 or so I practiced for 4-5 hours a day on average, just trying to get good.

My first gig came about a year or so later. My church advertised that they needed a guitarist for their Youth Group band, and after some thought I decided to try out. I brought my gear and showed up to the audition and the youth minister ran me through 5-6 songs (all of them pretty easy) and after the last song, he told me to set up on the stage in the auditorium because we'd be playing for that night's YG meeting in about 20 minutes. I was like, "You mean, like, we're actually PLAYING tonight? Like in front of people?" I had no advance warning of this. Then to make matters even more fun I was handed the sheets of the music we were playing that night and it turned out to be 10-12 more new songs that I'd never played in my life. Basic sight reading skills saved my ass that night. So my first gig was totally unexpected but I made it through just fine!

I didn't get paid that night but I remember the first time I did get paid. I was 17 and I had been hired at the last minute by my high school to play guitar for a production of GREASE that the drama dept. was putting on, and they'd fired the guy playing guitar because he told them he could sight-read and he couldn't and that screwed everything up in the music dept. Luckily the music director knew me and knew I could play well and sight-read, so he gave me a call and I had one night of rehearsal and 5 consecutive nights of performance. After intermission on the 5th night I came back to my spot in the band pit to find a $300 check sitting on my music stand. That felt gooooood. :D

If you could have one super power what would it be?

What is it like being the host of futureweapons? :joke: That show is awesome.

Who is your favorite character you read about or saw? (does not have to be superhero/comic book related)

Who is your favorite character you know?

I'd love to be able to fly, like Superman. I love it when I have to take a business trip for work that requires plane travel because I love looking out the window and seeing the world from above. Plus I'd save a ton of cash on transportation costs. No car, no gas, etc.

LAWL. I've only watched that show once. It seemed like a good show but that dude hosting seems a little too enthusiastic sometimes.

I'll lump these two questions together since they kind of appear t be the same thing, the way I'm reading them. I have different favorites in different categories, but one of my favorite characters in print is Ian Malcolm from Chricton's (R.I.P.) Jurassic Park. He's straightforward, analytical, honest, blunt, dry, and has a wry sense of humor. He's unconventional in his thinking, and very likable but he drives people who disagree with him absolutely crazy because he is always right from the get go. As a plot device he's very effective as well, because he forces you to focus on the bigger picture.

They started it, that's all I'll say. I never did get that pair of pants back... :grumble:

Among the material things, Bogner amps and boutique overdrive pedals. :D

Among immaterial things, I developed a very discriminating ear while simultaneously expanding my tastes and broadening my horizons concernin gear, tone and musical styles/genres. Being on here has been very enlightening and very enriching to my musical development.

Re: The Well XLVI: Return of the Chrome Dome

Today's the last day before I close this out and pick a new Well'er!

Re: The Well XLVI: Return of the Chrome Dome

OK, it's turnover day! I'll consider my pick and notify him later today.

Re: The Well XLVI: Return of the Chrome Dome

From my point of view, you have a lot of talent and could really make a go of a professional musical career with the right band. Do you see that for yourself?

With the right band and the right set of circumstances, yes I can see myself having a successful career as a musician. I've had too many people tellme otherwise to NOT make an honest go of it. I may fail, but I'm not going tolive my life telling myself I didn't try.

My life's work will involve working in the music field in some form. Maybe not being a pro musician, but I really can't see myself being happy with myself if that wasn't the case.

That wraps it up... Butch, take it away for the next Well!
