This LightWave Analog Optical Pickup System​ is pretty cool. I do not think I could use it for everything, but it would be great with certain songs.

Is the name just marketing on a peizo pickup system or a hexaphonic pickup?

I just dont think optical light is used to produce the sounds

I could be wrong

Hate the look, but love the idea. A guy I knew in college made a bass with optical pickups as his senior project. That was 20 years ago. It was a bit clunky because the pickups were integrated into individual bridge/saddle pieces for each string. The cool things were 1. you could use any strings since they didn't have to be magnetic, and 2. you could assign each string's output to control something else, in this case video parameters (he was a computer graphics major). Fun stuff. Always wanted to try a system like this on electric guitar just to hear it.
