The Worst SD Pickup?!?!?!

WITH FULL DISTORTION

F. Hails Railsologist
Hails guys, which one of the SD pickups you Like LESS? or Dislike?
what´s the worst SD pickup in your Opinion?

Hails
J.P

i never played it, but i think they should make an update on the Stag Mag.

Re: The Worst SD Pickup?!?!?!

ya... i play blues/rock and i like strats, Live Wires kinda the opposite lol, i guess it mostly depends on preference.

Re: The Worst SD Pickup?!?!?!

probably the duncan distortion. i dont see the need for a pickup that creates so much output and distortion when a guitar amp or stomp box can do it for you. they sound overdriven on a clean channel of an amp which is good for some things but they dont give a good clean sound(with the volume rolled back its not much better :S)

Re: The Worst SD Pickup?!?!?!

i like the invader, its got a very solid sound the clean is really good though not beautifull and glassy sounding like a low output pickup or a single coil its nice and solid. for distortion it sounds very good with a lot of top end available without being harsh. but i would not buy one :burnout: . the other guitarist in my band uses it on his guitar but i would prefere a jeff beck or a full shred

Re: The Worst SD Pickup?!?!?!

I don't think it's fair to rate ONE worst pickup... It would make more sense to say what style you play then say which pickup MADE FOR THAT STYLE would be the worst.

That said, and having not played very many Seymour Duncans myself, I don't think I can pass a judgement on the worst pickup for metal...

Re: The Worst SD Pickup?!?!?!

'59n is completely useless for anything but a beautiful clean. I've tried it so often and I always end up hating the heck out of it. It sounds so inarticulate and muddy overdriven, but when I hear the Jazz or PGn they can produce great clean ups and stay clear under gain. Compared to them, the '59n really sucks IMO

Re: The Worst SD Pickup?!?!?!

I couldn't get along with the C5. Other people love it. It's all down to individual taste. Fortunately SD has pickups to suit everyone. :)

Yup. Its funny, but one of my favorite combo's is still my original 59n/C5b. :)

The one pup I've had trouble finding a happy home for, is the Stag Mag. Its a great single coil pup . . . so-so humbucker. But I haven't given up yet. :)

Re: The Worst SD Pickup?!?!?!

I tried a Fender with a Pearly Gates plus bridge pickup, and it didn't do a whole lot for me, though I could probably make it work if I had to. I didn't like the Custom Custom very much, either (though the Custom kicks ass!) :D

Re: The Worst SD Pickup?!?!?!

The Screamin Demon is a very limited pickup IMO. Shrill to icepick-sharp in many guitars.
Good for players that have destroyed their upper-frequency hearing range (and wonder why everything else seems ‘muddy’)

Re: The Worst SD Pickup?!?!?!

I was less than thrilled with the Demon, as well. I was 18 when I got it, it was the first non-stock pickup I'd ever had, I knew nothing about pickups (aside from the fact that mine sucked) and with a name like "Screamin' Demon"... :D The guy who sold it to me doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground about pickups, either (don't shop at The Drinking Gourd in Dayton, Ohio). I went in saying I wanted an EMG 81. He told me that active pickups sucked, and if I wanted a great, super hot pickup, the Screamin Demon was the way to go. I remember saying, "What about this one called the Distortion?" and he told me that the Demon was way hotter.

Ignoramus.

Re: The Worst SD Pickup?!?!?!

I forgot to mention, I went in there again a few months ago, and was checking out the pickups (they have the best selection of Duncans instock of anybody around here). Anyway, the same guy came over and started trying to talk me into buying a Demon, about how it was a real "scorcher." I didn't mention that he'd already sold me one, but that I'd owned one, and didn't really think it was a "scorcher" at all. He then told me I must not have installed it correctly. I rolled my eyes, and said, "No, it's a medium output pickup, at least, according to Seymour Duncan and George Lynch it is" and left. Haven't been back since :)
