Thick, Fat Single Coil Set?

I tend to find most single coils too bright, probably because my gear is generally set for HB-equipped guitars. I'm looking for a S/S/S and H/S/S set that leans more toward dark and smoky rather than thin and biting.

Only interested in actual single coils, not stacked or single-coil sized HB's; I've generally been disappointed with those. What actual single coils sound like what I'm looking for?

Thanks,

Larry

There's the Custom, Hot, or Quarter Pound Strat. The Custom and Hot still aren't that broad, but are middy and warm. The QP is seriously broad, fat, dark, and middy.

According to my limited experince, i may think Fender Texas Specials. They were stronger, bolder and fatter than most of other Fender single coils like 57/62's or the ones on the early 2000s Amr.Std. strat singles.

I was gonna suggest this for Fender. But I don't think they are nearly Quarter Pound levels.

My experience:

The Texas Specials are very fat for single coils. The QP is a very different single coil that is super fat.

I tried the SSL-6 in the neck with 500k pots recently. Not too bad, but i don't have any experience with a comparable Pickup like the dimarzio FS-1.
Did you try P-90s?

I've actually got another guitar (strat-style) with P-90's and adore it. The closer I get to that with a 'bit' of the single coil character, the better.
