Thick tone from a Fender Super Reverb?

Well, I'm using a SR for bright/twangy surf and country styles, but I'm wondering, if I can make it sound thick and good enough for blues, using my Les Paul. I know the amp is voiced for mids/highs so, that's why I'm wondering?

What would be a good blues amp then?

one of the best live tones I've heard was a 335 type Gibson through an SR

no reason you can't get a great tone with the LP

Pretty much any of the BF/SF Fender amps are considered by most as premier
Blues amps. If it's a Silverface? Having a tech do a Blackface mod to it may help you get closer? Regardless... You have the right amp and guitar to do the job.:)

Re: Thick tone from a Fender Super Reverb?

check out pedals like the G2D Creamtone, or the Fulltone Fulldrive for some real thick bluesy tones!

Play it straight for a very nice tone, boost it if your playing is clean enough to play blues ala SRV.

Fulldrive is a good pedal, others can do the same to boost the preamps.

Re: Thick tone from a Fender Super Reverb?

I've played some dog bandmasters that simply didn't have the low end, but the Super Reverb should have the low end present within the signal. In other words, boosting the creaminess on the front end with one of the afforementioned pedals should definitely come through the amp, and not be lost along the way.

Finding fat sounding 6L6's and warm 12AX7's will help, too. And sorry for bringing this up, but the Arion Tubulator is incredibly creamy with the tone knob anywhere from 12:00 down. For $20USD you'll know if a front boost is your answer. If not, it's only $20, if so, the Tubulator can stand toe-to-toe with any TS based driver. It's actually a little creamier than a TS-9, and that's why I brought it up in your particular case.

Amen! A 335 thru a Super is blues tone to die for!

Re: Thick tone from a Fender Super Reverb?

for the price of a good pedal you can have the normal channel modded to sound fat as heck overdriven

Re: Thick tone from a Fender Super Reverb?

Derek Trucks only plays through Super Reverbs...that should tell you something right there

Re: Thick tone from a Fender Super Reverb?

Check out Rusty Zinn, Kirk Fletcher, Billy Flynn---all Gibsons through stock Super Reverbs...

p.s. changing out one cap in the PI from .01 mF to .015 or .02 will get it as fat as you can handle...
