Thin sounds on a Strat

So I installed a Cool Rails in the bridge of my Strat and have been very satisfied with the sound of the pickup alone. it's got just the output and tone I've been looking for.

However when I put it in position #4 on the pickup selector it sounds really thin.

Since I got the pickup used (and with a whopping inch of leads from it....thanks for mentioning it) there was no indication as to which side was "up"; the leads came out of the side rather than the middle. I set it up so that the leads, which looked like they were glued down to the base, pointed towards the controls. However the actual leads were on the far side of the pickup.

Good lord....I'm hoping that made sense.

Anyway....I'm assuming the lack of beefy tone in position #4 is due to it being out of phase and needing to be reversed. Does this sound right?

Thanks...

Yes. Reverse the leads on the bridge pickup. :)

Re: Thin sounds on a Strat

You mean switch the lead that goes to the volume pot and the one that goes to the pickup selector?

I think there were actually two leads that went to the volume pot....

If you have an uninsulated wire that always goes to the back of your pot. It's a ground wire.

Reverse the remaining two.
